Al Ewing and Jan Bazaldua’s Immortal Thor is all fans can discuss now in the comics world. The superhero, who ascended to the title of the All-father of Asgard recently, became one of the most powerful Gods in the Marvel universe. In the comics, Thor was traditionally far below the power level of Olympus’ Skyfather Zeus. However, that changed in Immortal Thor.

The build-up of the comics has impressed many fans, who already had great expectations from Ewing. The writer previously wrote the short-lived Guardians of the Galaxy series for Marvel, where Zeus appeared as a villain. Fans even bashed Taika Waititi’s representation of Thor vs Zeus in Thor: Love and Thunder after the comics now took it to the next level.

Immortal Thor has been a fan-favorite series ever since its first edition and fans can’t stop talking about the latest #14 edition. In the edition, Thor goes to war with a reborn Zeus. At the end of the battle, Chris Hemsworth‘s mighty Asgardian God has reached a whole new level of godhood.

Traditionally, Thor could never match the powers of Zeus in the comics before the Immortal Thor series. Zeus served as a mentor to Thor and had powers the same as Odin and Galactus. However, the MCU portrayed Zeus as a lewd arrogant God who immediately dismissed Thor’s concerns about Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder.

When Russell Crowe‘s Zeus tries to kill Korg and Thor, an angry Thor goes full God mode and is able to wield Zeus’ thunderbolt. He was able to impale the Olympian God with his own weapon and escape with his friends. During the end credits of the film, Zeus swears vengeance on Thor and the Asgardians and sends his son Hercules to kill Thor.

Fans found Taika Waititi‘s entire arc for Zeus in the film to be a joke. One fan compared the comic strip from Immortal Thor to the film, sharing how the MCU ruined the Thor vs Zeus moment. Others also shared comments criticizing the 2022 film. Some fans were praising the premise of the new comic series. Some of the fan reactions read:

The film received mixed reviews from critics who criticized the poorly written screenplay and tonal inconsistencies. Despite the polarized responses, the film managed to amass $760.9 million, becoming the second highest-grossing Thor film (via Box Office Mojo).

Thor recently became the All-Power and became tied to the cosmic order, meaning he could form a unique bond with the natural world. Thor was on a lower power level than Zeus before he attained his Skyfather status. As he went into battle with Zeus, he understood he was now an equal to the Olympian God.

Prior to the Immortal Thor series, the Olympians were killed by the night goddess Nyx who reincarnated Zeus in a far more aggressive and powerful form. The Guardians of the Galaxy managed to send this Zeus to an alternate dark dimension with the help of Athena. Thor and Hercules come face to face with Zeus when Loki sends them to this dark dimension.

Writer Al Ewing introduced Zeus as the perfect enemy who could test Thor’s newly gained powers. Fans were shocked to see Thor stopping Zeus’s lightning bolt coming at him with the word “turn”. While fans thought it was the peak level of power from him, they were in for another twist.

After getting enraged at Thor for stopping his bolt attacks, Zeus summons the lightning inside of Thor. However, Thor endures his attack. He explained to Zeus that the Olympian God’s blows served as fuel which gave Thor the power of Zeus. It was only then that the Greek God realized that he had made Thor the most powerful God, exercising the power of both Odin and Zeus all in one.

Thor: Love and Thunder is currently available to watch on Disney+.
