One of the most poorly received announcements in recent months was the reveal of yet another hero shooter, known as Concord. The debut developer, Firewalk Studios, received a very negative reception on social media due to the lack of originality in its gameplay.
Despite cinematics expanding the story of the game’s characters, the community barely paid attention. Tomorrow, PS5 and PC will simultaneously release this title, but it appears to be just another live service game that will quickly fade away.
With the Launch of Concord, Firewalk Studios May Face a Harsh Reality
Despite an initially positive reaction to the cinematic trailer, which seemed to offer something original, once the studio shifted focus to gameplay, enthusiasm quickly deflated.
On social media, negativity grew, and the reactions of potential players were less than favorable. All signs point to Concord’s immediate failure, and some users on platforms like X suggest that the studio’s eight years of development may have been in vain.
Sony built this studio from scratch, and this game could be a huge disappointment for the entire gaming community. Even though the team members at Firewalk Studios are more than pleased with all the work they’ve done, if sales don’t meet expectations, the outcome could be disastrous.
Unlike games like Helldivers 2, which truly surprised with their sales, it’s difficult to believe that what this new hero shooter offers will change players’ minds.
The PS5 Could Be Getting Another Game That’s a Sales Flop
On his official X account, one of the development team members for this title thanked the entire team for their hard work on Concord. Unfortunately, many users took this positive message as an opportunity to comment that the title will likely be a total sales failure and will die within a few months.
One of the things this developer pointed out is that the game had been in development for eight years.
Clearly, the development time works against games of this style, which are created when a trend becomes very popular—in this case, when hero shooters were at their peak.
But now, eight years later, hardly anyone considers this type of game a top priority, and the number of players interested in them has dropped significantly. One of the major downsides of the current state of video games is how long they take to develop.
When it comes to live service games, it’s increasingly difficult for a game like Concord or others like it to succeed and maintain a stable community that makes it profitable.
Very few titles have survived this market for more than a couple of years or even months; the competition is becoming more challenging and demanding for developers who want to keep a significant number of active players every day.
