There’s no doubt that Game Science’s Black Myth Wukong is currently the talk of the town, as millions of gamers are flocking to the highly-anticipated game! The Chinese AAA game, directly inspired by the Journey of the West Novel, has proven to be a massive success.
Unfortunately, the game’s console availability is currently limited to PlayStation 5 users. This has frustrated many Xbox gamers who were patiently waiting for the title. However, it seems like the game might not be coming to the Microsoft console anytime soon.
Black Myth Wukong Release on Xbox is Years Away
With Black Myth Wukong becoming such a massive hit, many gamers are wondering when, or if, there will be a version of the game for Xbox Series S and X consoles. The game was supposed to come for the Microsoft system, but earlier this summer, Game Science stated that it was delayed due to improvements in optimization.
When Forbes writer Paul Tassi questioned Microsoft about the status of the Black Myth Wukong Xbox port, which Game Science hasn’t said anything about in months now, the company’s spokesperson gave a worrying response.
The language of Microsoft’s statement suggests that Game Science has made some kind of exclusive timed deal for Black Myth Wukong with Sony. This has concerned many players in the community who suspect it’s going to be a long while before the game hits the shelves on the Xbox marketplace.
In any case, even if Game Science has made an exclusivity deal under the table with Sony, it’s unlikely that the studio or Sony will ever accept it.
Even if there’s some kind of exclusive deal, it still doesn’t change the fact that porting AAA games on Xbox is a nightmare for developers. When Baldur’s Gate 3 was released on PS5, Larian Studios was quite vocal about the game’s progress on the Xbox Series S/X port.
Let’s hope Game Science finally breaks out of its shell and gives the community an update for the Black Myth Wukong Xbox port. Despite its trouble, the Microsoft console still has millions of active players, and it would be a shame that such a popular game isn’t ever released on it.
Black Myth Wukong is Boosting PS5 Sales
Even if Black Myth Wukong isn’t out on Xbox, the game’s success clearly benefits its rival console, PlayStation 5. As per a Bloomberg report, the title has stirred up a massive bump in demand for PS5 in China, with some gamers going on an unusual buying spree.
The source reveals that PS5 made it to the top of e-commerce giant Alibaba’s electronics list just a week before the game’s launch. Allegedly, Sony’s console sales during that week were twice as high as last year.
The incredible volume of Black Myth Wukong-driven console sales is far from the usual in China despite giants such as Nintendo and Sony having tried their best to crack the market in the past.
With Game Science bringing further content drops and fixes for Black Myth Wukong, it will be quite interesting to see how long the game will be able to maintain this surge of console players.
