Starting October 24, 2024, members of the loyalty program will need to take a crucial step to avoid losing their membership and points. Here is the key information from the recent email:

Starting October 24, 2024, please log-into PlayStation Stars on PlayStation App or online.

There, you’ll be prompted to review and accept the updated Terms of Service to remain a PlayStation Stars member, or decline and cancel your PlayStation Stars membership.

If you do not make any selection, you will be considered a canceled member until you accept the updated Terms of Service.

If it wasn’t clear already, this isn’t just a minor update; it’s a critical one. If you fail to log in and accept the new terms, Sony will treat you as a “canceled member” until you do so. That means all of your points and progress could essentially be put on hold.

But what else is changing? One of the most significant updates is that points will no longer be rewarded for subscription payments starting March 1, 2025. This change has already sparked some controversy among fans, who feel that this move is a step backward for the program.

Many have, undoubtedly, grown accustomed to earning points through their subscriptions, and this change will force them to find new ways to accumulate points.

The Impact on PS5 Users

For PS5 users who have been relying on PlayStation Stars to earn points through their subscription payments, this change could be particularly disappointing.

The program has been a way for loyal gamers to accumulate points that can be redeemed for PS Store credit, free games, and digital collectibles. Now, those points will have to come from other activities, such as completing specific PlayStation campaigns or making eligible purchases.

The new terms also include changes to how points expire. New points earned will expire “at the end of the month plus 12 months” from the date they appear in your PlayStation Stars account balance.

This is, essentially, HALF the previous expiration period (24 months), so members will need to be more mindful of when they earn and redeem their points.
