Netflix’s One Piece live-action adaptation that broke the curse by becoming the first-ever successful adaptation has once again started trending on the internet. The reason for this trend is the new update that the series has been getting in the form of casting announcements and messages from the creators about the upcoming season of the series.

However, while fans are excited about One Piece live-action’s release on Netflix, there are some who fear the modifications that the creators might have to do to compress an entire saga into a single season. This fear comes from the changes that the series made last year for its first season.

Although most of the changes were accepted by the fans, there were some that caused big problems for the characters and the storylines. The biggest example of this was Luffy actor Iñaki Godoy’s one specific dialogue that was different from the manga and caused massive outrage because of its inaccuracy.

Iñaki Godoy’s Change in Luffy’s Dialogue Hurt His Character Development

The massive success that One Piece live-action witnessed after its release was the result of its faithful adaptation with some creative changes and brilliant acting by the actors. However, while the majority of One Piece fans were happy with how the live-action adaptation turned out, there was a faction of fans who questioned the changes and modifications made in the series.

Garp’s inclusion in the first season, Nami’s backstory changes, modifications in important dialogues and interactions, etc. were some of the aspects of the live-action series that did not sit well with some fans. One such change was recently pointed out by @Erasyl_Khan on X.

This revision not only doubted Luffy’s confidence while fighting Arlong but also affected his role as a protagonist of the series. From the perspective of Luffy’s character development during the Arlong Park arc, this was indeed a problematic change.

Some One Piece Fans Are Not Happy With The Modifications

The creators of One Piece live-action tried their best to be faithful to the original source as much as possible. However, it was not easy to adapt the manga to the core, as not only would it have lengthened the series unnecessarily, but it would also have made the job of the actors difficult.

Still, such changes that affected the character development of the main character of the series could have been avoided. Thus, the fans decided to discuss these modifications and criticize them for hurting the story.

Regardless of these changes and modifications, One Piece live-action did good in terms of portraying the story. Thus, fans will have to wait and see how the series adapts the second saga in the One Piece storyline and what alterations are made this time.
