Developed by Firewalk Studios, Concord is a brand-new 5v5 hero shooter that mashes up popular franchises such as Guardians of the Galaxy and Overwatch to bring something entirely new to the table. The shooter takes place in a namesake Concord galaxy and features a cast of mercenaries dubbed “Freegunners.”

Gamers got their official sneak peek at the game during Sony’s State of Play. However, the title’s announcement concerned many, as players were critical of the character design and overall atmosphere. Now that the game is finally out, gamers can’t comprehend how Sony ever decided to greenlight such a monstrosity but outright axed fan-requested games.

Gamers Can’t Understand How Concord Ever Hit the Shelves

After eight long years of development, the widely-panned hero shooter Concord was released to both PlayStation 5 players and PC players on August 23rd.

However, the shooter hasn’t really moved the needle in terms of player interest, with many finding the game unoriginal and generic, especially when compared to well-known hero shooters such as Overwatch 2 and Valorant.

Sony is a company that’s known for its blockbuster single-player experience, and with 2024 lacking anything on the level of Spider-Man 2 or God of War Ragnarök, gamers are frustrated that the company instead gave us this 5v5 hero shooter monstrosity that no one had ever asked for, to begin with.

It’s truly a shame that when accounting for the resources that went into crafting an overdone type of game that could have been used for giving us the highly requested Spider-Man: The Great Web and The Last of Us Factions. Gamers have expressed their annoyance and believe it’s time for higher-ups to start taking accountability.

Expectations for the game were already quite low after its open beta back in July as the shooter failed to attract interest among gamers.

Many believe that Concord would’ve been much better going the free-to-play route like its competitors. Instead, PlayStation’s decision to opt for a title launch with a $39.99 price tag has certainly caused immense damage.

Although Concord‘s Steam reviews are positive, gamers are not flocking to the game. Currently, there are just over 200 reviews on the platform, and according to SteamDB, the game has only peaked at 697 players since its release on August 23rd, 2023.

When put in direct comparison with Overwatch 2, a shooter that’s one of the worst reviewed games on Steam, Concord falls short. Even though it’s a massively controversial game, Overwatch 2 still pulls right around 55,000 players on a daily basis.

There are multiple reasons why PlayStation’s new shooter is performing so badly, but the shooter’s release date is also another factor.

With two massive content drops for Overwatch 2 and Destiny 2 followed by Black Ops 6‘s beta on August 30th, gamers simply don’t feel the need to invest $39.99 for an unproven and boring game.

Whatever the actual reason behind the game’s terrible start on Steam, the low player number is undoubtedly a huge blow to PlayStation 5 and Firewalk Studios.

How do you think Sony and Firewalk Studios can fix this hero shooter? Let us know in the comments.
