Quentin Tarantino is one of the most outstanding filmmakers in the entire entertainment industry, with his projects delivering such worthwhile experiences that continue to leave an indelible mark on their audiences, even after decades. A profound storyteller, he has a keen eye for exceptional works, which is why Tom Hanks’ Toy Story saga is one of his top favorites as well.

Despite not being a massive fan of animation, this one family-adventure film franchise has long held a special place in the director’s heart. But this love is only restricted to the initial three installments of the film series, with Tarantino unhesitantly openly confessing how he has “no desire” to see the fourth film for a very valid reason while Disney is milking the lore for a fifth movie.

Quentin Tarantino Holds No Regard for Toy Story 4

For a franchise that took off with the incredible critical success of Toy Story in 1995, Tom Hanks‘ family-adventure-comedy saga hasn’t stopped spawning, even after nearly crossing three decades of its existence. Attracting an audience in unfathomable numbers, the animated lore will soon be having its fifth installment delivered to fans by 2026.

However, although he is “a big fan” of the saga, mastermind moviemaker cum actor Quentin Tarantino holds no concern for any movie from the saga that came after the third film.

If anything, his tremendous love for it—despite notably not being a fan of “all the animated movies and stuff”—is restricted only to the trilogy, which ended with the third movie released in 2010.

During a recent appearance on the Club Random Podcast with Bill Maher, he confessed the same, saying:

In the case of Toy Story, the third one is just magnificent. It’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen, and if you’ve seen the other two then it’s just, it’s devastating. But the thing is, then three years later or something, they did a fourth. And I have no desire to see it.

But, of course, this disregard from Tarantino’s end towards the fourth film and the upcoming fifth installment isn’t without very good reasoning. As the filmmaker continued to confess:

You literally ended the story as perfect as you could. So, no, I don’t care if it’s good. I’m done. I am done! It can still be good, but I’m done.

That being said, Disney currently milking the franchise for a fifth movie that would reportedly be centered around Woody and Buzz Lightyear back again sounds like a bit too much for the animated saga.

And, stunningly enough, despite the fourth movie having a gigantic worldwide box office performance of over $1 billion (via Box Office Mojo), fans agree with Tarantino’s vision.

Just like all its previous installments, 2019’s Toy Story 4 was a raving success as well, crossing the billion mark at global box offices on its budget of $200 million. And yet, even all those die-hard fans can’t help but admit just how not-needed this movie was, especially after the perfect end that 2010’s third movie in the film series delivered.

This was why, when Tarantino echoed their thoughts, fans couldn’t help but express just how much they agreed with him. Taking to X, here are their respective opinions on the same:

With even fans admitting that Quentin Tarantino was spitting facts here, it might as well be acknowledged that Disney is pretty much just milking the fan-favorite cow for more profits now. But to know for sure if the Mouse House actually hits the target or ends up with a sinking boat with the fifth installment remains yet to be seen.

Toy Story 5 is currently set for a release date of June 19, 2026, while all the other movies from the film series can be streamed on Disney+.
