We are halfway into 2024, and a lot of gaming nerds have already found their new favorite character, this time someone from Chinese mythology. Game Science’s action RPG, Black Myth: Wukong, is shattering records and demonstrating the power of traditional mythology when executed well. However, its success is clashing with fans of another franchise based on Greek mythology.
We are talking about none other than God of War, the game that owned the 2022 gaming awards calendar, and still remains one of the most influential franchises to this day. And it is high time that the IP uses this clash for something good – for both the fans and itself.
Amazon’s God of War series needs to reach out to Henry Cavill
Henry Cavill might be slightly down on his luck right now with his recent flops at the box office, however, one cannot deny the massive star power that follows his acting skill and dedication to his roles. And he might be a great pick to embody the Ghost of Sparta in Amazon’s planned series.
The Man of Steel star is a self-proclaimed nerd, and has often confessed to spending hours on his gaming rig. That is one of the reasons why his portrayal of Geralt of Rivia was one of the good things about Netflix’s The Witcher, which quickly fell apart after his departure.
There’s nothing that suggests Cavill can’t play a rage-filled young Kratos. He already boasts the physicality, is good at changing voice (like he did in The Witcher), and has apt gaming lore knowledge to embody the character perfectly. Cavill has already changed his hairstyle once for Argylle, a completely bald look might not be so bad after all!
Fans debate if Sun Wukong can beat Kratos
Whenever a new powerful character makes its debut, comparisons are bound to happen. And none are as explosive and entertaining as fans defending their favorite gods.

Both the characters are established to be nigh unstoppable. As the Tweet mentions, Wukong can create self-sentient copies of himself using his hair. On the other hand, Kratos literally clawed his way back to the land of living through Hell. However, at the end of the day, the IP with the most fans wins, and Amazon has a golden opportunity for that.
