James Gunn might currently be looking ahead to the release of Superman, set to reboot the DC Universe and bring about a new era with new faces adorning fan-favorite superheroes of the franchise. However, it looks as if the live-action and animated universe that he is set to head is the entirety of his jurisdiction as far as the overall franchise is concerned.

Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta’s Absolute Batman series is set to launch on October 9, 2024, and recently revealed the logo that Batman will sport, on his costume and otherwise. The logo in itself is an anglicized version of the more familiar graphic that Batman often showcases on his costume.

However, the changes have not been well-received by fans, with some even asking James Gunn to change it, as the release of the storyline looms closer. However, on Twitter, the DC Studios co-CEO claimed that he had absolutely no jurisdiction over the comics.

James Gunn cannot change the Absolute Batman logo that has irked fans

The new Batman logo that will be seen in Absolute Batman is starkly different from the kind that has been associated with the character traditionally. Larger in size, the bat has been converted almost to a rectangle with ears and wings, and the stark change has not been well-met by fans at all.

One would expect that James Gunn will have a say on the matter, considering he is playing a huge part in the direction the overall DCU is going. However, as it turns out, his jurisdiction does not extend to the comics, as he himself revealed recently on Twitter.

This was following a range of fans demanding that the logo should be changed in time for the actual release of the comic storyline. However, in anti-climactic fashion, Gunn suggested that he simply cannot do that, as a matter of fact:

I have no jurisdiction over the comics!

The clarification comes after a range of fans had asked the DC helmer to improve the logo, and the resultant response also garnered a range of reactions from fans.

As can be seen, most stuck with their demands, and claimed that even Gunn seems to know that the logo ‘looks bad.’

Now confirmed, James Gunn not only has no control over the comics that DC produces, the logo creator has also stood by his creation. While fans may have found the logo to be awful, Lee instead created it in order to reflect the changing narrative that will be seen in Absolute Batman.

The logo in question takes the form of an axe, and in itself attempts to reveal some of the changes in Batman’s characteristics that will be seen in the upcoming comic. While a departure from its roots, the logo can be expected to feature prominently in the upcoming comics produced by DC, and in itself attempts to distinguish the narrative from others that DC comics have worked on, over the years.

Hence, the logo apart, fans can expect a range of changes with respect to the kind of narrative traditional Batman comics have featured. Absolute Batman will be available for subscribers of DC UNIVERSE INFINITE starting from 9th October 2024.
