The concept of blades and swords is quite unique in the legendary lore of One Piece. While there are all kinds of swords in the series, the strongest are known as Meito, which are graded because of their origins and their creations. These grades depend upon the type of sword and its rarity, with the Supreme Grade Blades being the best among them.

As of now, Eiichiro Oda has revealed five out of the twelve Supreme Graded swords, and one of them is Murakumogiri, which was wielded by Whitebeard. As per legends, Murakumogiri is enlisted as one of the top three blades in the One Piece world, and after Whitebeard’s death, the blade has been placed on his grave.

The blade is potentially worth billions of berries, but no one dares steal it. In fact, no one even knows the exact location of the blade. However, A One Piece theory states that the reason people are not going after Whitebeard’s Murakumogiri is Shanks.

The Sheer Strength of Whitebeard’s Murakumogiri

Whitebeard wielded Murakumogiri for thirty years, and he used it to fight some of the strongest characters in One Piece. The Japanese name for the blade is “naginata,” and it is one of the longest blades in One Piece. The blade is so strong that it could not only hold off powerful attacks but also allowed Whitebeard to channel the powers of his Gura Gura no Mi through it.

Whitebeard has been wielding this blade since he was a member of the Rocks Pirates, and the strength of this blade can be reflected in the fact that it is the only blade within the 12 Supreme Grade swords that is not a sword. Its monetary value would easily be in billions.

Being one of the graded blades, Murakumogiri potentially has a will of its own. Thus, it most likely demands some kind of transfer from its user in the exchange of its power. But because of Whitebeard’s death, no one knows how to wield and use it in the best way possible.

One Piece Theory Explains Why No One Can Steal Murakumogiri

According to a theory posted by @Wafer-the-Dog on YouTube, there are three different reasons why no one can steal Murakumogiri to attain its unmeasurable power. The first reason is that it is placed on Whitebeard’s grave, and no one knows the exact location of the grave besides the characters who attended Whitebeard’s funeral.

Another reason is that Murakumogiri has a will of its own, which makes it difficult for others to wield it. Just like Enma demanded Zoro be stronger, Murakumogiri must demand something from its user, and only strong characters like Whitebeard would be able to even touch it.

And finally, the most likely scenario is that the Red-Haired Pirates, who organized Whitebeard’s funeral after taking him from Marineford, are guarding it. The theory states that they have potentially left their Jolly Roger near Whitebeard’s grave to make it clear that looting Whitebeard’s grave means war, and as of now no one in One Piece is capable of challenging Shanks.
