Since the early days of gaming, controversy, and video games have often gone hand in hand. In the past, games like Mortal Kombat sparked various controversies because of their extreme violence during more conservative times.

Over 30 years later, with age ratings in place, these kinds of complaints no longer have much relevance in the industry. However, it seems that certain countries still have issues with violence in video games.

Recently, Call of Duty officially launched a content bundle for the new movie The Crow on August 22nd. This film is a remake of the 1994 movie based on a graphic novel of the same name.

It appears that the content, which is a standard feature in this game, did not receive a favorable reception in Germany due to its perceived excessive violence. Naturally, Warzone players mocked this decision.

The Crow and Its Collaboration With Call of Duty Spark Controversy

The controversial execution features The Crow character taking a shotgun, aiming directly under the target’s chin, and blowing their head into a thousand pieces. Obviously, compared to titles like Mortal Kombat or similar ones rated 17+, this kind of violence is entirely common.

To avoid such controversies, Call of Duty and Activision have these ratings for their titles. Therefore, the content that has been banned makes no sense.

Of course, on social media and platforms like X, the German government’s action was mocked endlessly by the Warzone and Call of Duty community.

Executions are completely common in this game universe and are something that players and the community are very accustomed to as they are an integral part of the experience. Another aspect of this particular execution that has sparked controversy is that when the head explodes, there is no blood; instead, crows appear.

Most players of this saga are eagerly awaiting the release of Black Ops 6, a title that seems poised to make up for the mistakes made in Modern Warfare 3.

Activision continues to build anticipation for this release with various teasers and gameplay previews of the different modes that will be available. The studio remains highly invested in what this IP can generate, and fans are very pleased with the potential outcome.

I'm a big fan of movies and videogames in general. I really love Pokémon and Godzilla. One of my favorite games is The Last of Us, Part II. A compelling and well-written story is always welcome.
