Needless to say, the audience loved it and the clip is doing rounds on the internet once again. Such is the charisma of Mackie, who’s known for being witty and a nice comic relief, in reel and real life. Let’s dive into his offbeat retelling of the movie, which might just be the most entertaining Avengers story you’ve ever heard.

Anthony Mackie’s Take on Infinity War

When Anthony Mackie took the stage on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, no one foresaw the wild ride that he was about to take us on. The actor claimed that the script we know and love wasn’t the original one, and gave a rundown of what might seem like a casually written first draft.

In his retelling, things were a lot more laid back, starting with Thanos who gets mad because the Avengers “beat up his boy.” So in Mackie’s world, Thanos’s motivation is less about world domination and more about his bruised ego.

The Falcon actor doesn’t stop there, he makes the audience visualize Captain America, calling up the Avengers as if he were organizing a casual hangout:

Yo, Thanos is coming, it’s about to get real, Imma need ya’ll to slide through real quick so we can figure out what’s going on.

You can almost picture Captain America chilling on his couch, dialing up the earth’s mightiest heroes for a weekend barbecue rather than a battle that decided the fate of this world. The Avengers respond with a cool, “no doubt” before they “skedaddle” over to meet Cap, to take care of that little Thanos problem.

It was a rewrite, it was a rewrite, the original script is not the script you see.

He jokingly adds that what we see on screen is not the actual script but a rewrite of what was supposed to happen in the movie. Like they’re in an ultimate superheroes group chat where saving the universe is just an item to cross off the to-do list.

Anthony Mackie Makes Avengers Meets Chill Comedy

Mackie’s version is undoubtedly casual, cool, and hilarious, and sounds like a friend recounting his last weekend’s antics. It’s a different vibe from the Russo brothers‘ directorial, Avengers: Infinity War, which was a serious affair with heart-stopping moments and the infamous ending that left all fans stunned in silence.

However, if they ever need to make a parody version of the film, reimagined as a buddy comedy, Anthony Mackie would be a perfect fit for the role of a screenwriter and even director. What makes this all even more interesting is Mackie’s hint that the original script never ended up on screen.

Knowing how Marvel keeps things under wraps even from their own actors, it is quite possible that there’s a laid-back version of the movie that we never saw. Either way, his knack for taking an epic tale and making it entertaining in a whole new way is praiseworthy, and we need to see him more in comedies!
