The Strongest Creature in the One Piece world, Kaido of the Beast Pirates, got a well-deserved ending to his tale a few months ago at the hands of Luffy. He was one of the most intriguing characters in the series because of his strength and his desire to burn the world to bits. He was the perfect villain for the Wano arc, and lived up to the expectations of One Piece fans.

No one knows how or why Kaido transformed into the character that was portrayed in the Wano arc. His rude, cruel, and brutal nature towards his enemies and his close ones (like Yamato) has no decent explanation. While fans have some kind of explanation of his backstory, most of the moments from his past have never been revealed by Eiichiro Oda.

However, the One Piece theory has explained the missing parts of Kaido’s backstory that point out the reason behind his brutality towards Yamato. This backstory shows a side of Kaido that would have made One Piece fans sympathetic towards the antagonist.

Kaido’s Relationship With Yamato

Ever since Yamato has seen the light of day, Kaido has shown his brutal side to him. He has forced him into dangerous situations to make him stronger and obey Kaido’s will. They have had multiple fights, and Kaido has always beaten him. Most of these fights were the result of Yamato wanting to become the next Oden of Wano.

Kaido drove Yamato to the point where he literally saw his father as his biggest enemy. He even went to the length of cuffing him with explosive handcuffs, which prevented him from running away from Kaido’s shadow. All these events made Yamato void of any emotions when Kaido was finally defeated by Luffy.

While Kaido and Yamato hated each other to the core, the former still had plans for him. He wanted Yamato to become the Shogun of Wano and rule it in the absence of Kaido. However, Yamato was more obsessed with opening the borders of Wano to let the country be free from Kaido’s tyranny.

One Piece Theory Reveals Kaido’s Sad Backstory

According to a One Piece theory posted by u/Infinity_Overload on Reddit, after Kaido left the Rocks Pirates, his life changed drastically. He met someone from the same tribe as him and basically fell in love with her (Yamato’s mother). He experienced a world with her that he never knew of and enjoyed every moment of his life.

But at some point, Kaido and his love were imprisoned by the World Government to conduct experiments on them.

While Kaido managed to escape, Yamato’s mother could not bear the pain of the experiments, and she died. Kaido was heartbroken to the point where he felt like he needed to burn the world.

Yamato is most likely the reminder of the time Kaido spent with his love interest, and this is why he hated him. He understood that love made him weak and let his lover die. He didn’t want the same thing to happen to Yamato, which is why he was so brutal with her and forced her to become one of the strongest characters in One Piece.

One Piece is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
