“We got scammed again”: Black Myth Wukong’s Exclusion From Xbox Reportedly Nothing to Do With Terrible Hardware

Every day appears to bring new information to light that Black Myth Wukong coming to Xbox may remain a dream for many console owners.

Black Myth Wukong, Xbox

SUMMARY

  • Black Myth Wukong was released initially only on the PlayStation 5 and PC, despite being advertised for Xbox.
  • The initial reason for the absence was memory leaks caused by the Xbox version, delaying the release indefinitely.

Black Myth Wukong has been the biggest thing in gaming since its release ten days ago, and with good reason. Game Science revealed its first AAA title exactly four years before its launch, and people had been eagerly awaiting its release.

PlayStation and PC players have been enjoying the world of Wukong, but sadly, Xbox users have been left out of the party. This is the second title in the year producing FOMO, and we now have new information that may explain why the game has not appeared on the system yet!

Black Myth Wukong Exclusivity Could Be a Problem for Xbox

It wasn’t too long ago that Phil Spencer revealed many Xbox-exclusive titles would be making their way onto other platforms. This move was heavily criticized, stating that other platforms would not adopt a similar approach. This appears to be true, as the latest information reported on Black Myth Wukong’s absence on Microsoft’s gaming platform.

It was reported that the game was not launched on Microsoft’s gaming system due to a memory leak issue. This led to an indefinite release of the game, and some have remarked that bringing the game to the system is “not worth the resources as Game Science has achieved massive success already. But this might not be the full picture, as is revealed by newly reported information.

Paul Tassi recently reported that the reason Black Myth Wukong isn’t on Xbox is not due to a memory issue but rather an exclusivity contract. The information has come from an anonymous source who Tassi claims has “specific knowledge of the situation,” and he considers their statements to be the “final word” on the Wukong-Xbox situation.

The information has understandably upset those who own the console, as it was maintained that the game would be made available at launch.

While some may choose to blame Game Science for not being more transparent about this topic, public opinion is already against the company for many of its perceived failings over the years. This will be another knock against the company and may create another Helldivers 2 situation where users are left watching others having fun.

Wukong’s Success Could Be Detrimental for Microsoft’s Gaming Console

The company has been facing the brunt of criticism for a while now. Whether it’s partnering with Amazon to bring cloud gaming to Fire devices or announcing a massive IP such as Indiana Jones would be available on the PlayStation soon, gamers have been expressing their disappointment with many decisions.

As was expressed across the internet, users were not happy with the company breaking exclusivity on some important IPs. Many felt it would lead the hardware to become secondary, as people would rather buy the competitor’s hardware to access their exclusive titles. This may have been prophetic, as we have seen with Helldivers 2 and, now, with Wukong.

With no release date set for the game yet, Microsoft may need to chalk up another missed opportunity. While the company has released a statement saying it is working to get the title onto its platform, this might be a “too little, too late” kind of scenario.
