The highly anticipated sequel takes place on a new planet with new vault hunters. Narrative director Sam Winkler explained that they have made sure that the humor in the game is situational and that it emerges naturally. In terms of the environment, Winkler said they have made sure that the world is grounded.

This is a step in the right direction for the Borderlands franchise after the recent movie flop that has been plaguing the games name, but now with a whole new world, set of characters, and more, it will hopefully feel like a new franchise.

During the event, May also revealed some interesting details about the game’s setting and revealed what fans can expect from the game. He said,

The Borderlands universe is super interesting and there is so much to get to play with – It is a post-apocalyptic world but in the distant future, so it’s like high-tech but lo-fi. It creates all kinds of interesting opportunities with what we can do with tech, our weapons, our characters, and world in general.

Borderlands 4 doesn’t have a release date yet, but it is expected to launch for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S sometime in 2025. Shortly after it was announced that the game would be released on both the Epic Games Store and Steam, people dug up CEO Randy Pitchford’s controversial statement about Steam.
