Talking to Interview Magazine, the actor revealed that he was nervous back then to return calls and was just not any good on the telephone. He also called himself a ‘loser’,

I was a total failure with girls; it was a catastrophe. It was the girls from the United Way that called me. [laughs] The real story is that I have a problem with the telephone and I don’t return phone calls if I can’t deal with something. It’s not because I’m cool—it’s because I’m a loser and I’m afraid of dealing with something that’s awkward and uncomfortable.

Damon, who joined him in the interview, also mentioned that their roommate would get annoyed at Affleck’s behavior and would beg him to pick up the calls.

Much like his Good Will Hunting character, Matt Damon reportedly went to Harvard, though he was not a janitor. The actor reportedly got the idea for the breakthrough film while he was at Harvard and had written a treatment for his playwriting class. However, the actor dropped out before receiving his degree.

Affleck on the other hand reportedly studied Middle Eastern Affairs at Occidental College for a year and a half but then chose not to attend any university and focused on his career. He said to Interview Magazine,

[My college experience] was much more choppy…Then I decided that 20 grand a year could be better spent on things like liquor and women. And so that’s the way I went.

The actor also mentioned that despite going their separate ways for a few years, Damon and he still stayed in touch.
