Toei Animation has always been one to impress, especially when it comes to animating Eiichiro Oda’s creative art style in the One Piece anime. Whether it was about breaking the internet over Luffy’s Gear 5 debut, Shanks’ Divine Departure, or Garp’s Galaxy Impact; the anime isn’t one to disappoint. Seeing how it has basically been keeping up with the manga, the different between the two isn’t much.

On the contrary, it helps enhance the anime even more. Seeing Oda’s imagination come to life and them getting turned into an anime was only the cherry on top. There was a sense of pride in watching iconic sequences come to life in an animated format. However, episode 1117 turns things around, and not for the best.

One Piece Episode 1117 Takes Glory Away

Usually, the One Piece anime has been exceptional in being able to capture the manga’s essence. Eiichiro Oda’s drawing skills are unique and for them to get adapted into an animated medium is a task of great care of understanding. No matter how big or small a moment may be, Toei Animation goes above and beyond in bringing it to life without essentially causing harm to the actual story.

That was until episode 1117 came and changed the outlook of how fans viewed the anime. While a majority of it was good, most of the fans focusing on Imu’s introduction in the coming episodes, one sequence in particular was underwhelming.

The sequence in question is of the silhouette of the Holy Knights in the background as Dragon stands in the forefront. The manga did an exceptional job of introducing them and hinting at their power, creating an ominous aura surrounding them that helped develop intrigue.

The Manga Might Always be Better

As episode 1117 of One Piece was recently released, fans came to experience the introduction of the Holy Knights. The group, which is led by Figardland, holds a lot of power and to bring that into the picture was also to give the fans something they had been waiting for. Unfortunately, the aforementioned scene was nothing short of underwhelming.

The manga’s panel was sharp, and detailed and told many stories in just one picture despite having depicting silhouettes. On the other hand, the anime has rounded figures that give away little to nothing. For all those who would have expected more, they got less instead.

Even the term underwhelming seems to justify little of what it is actually trying to depict. Fans have noticed just as much how there could have been so much done with the scene but only so little was done instead. The introduction of the Holy Knights, that which could potentially lead to a revelation of Shanks’ own story because of Figarland, was not just underwhelming but also disappointing.

One Piece is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
