The gaming community believes another deity like Zhong Kui will be the perfect protagonist for a sequel given his background and the folktale lore behind this deity. Perhaps Game Science will do something insane to top this year’s entry.

Chinese mythology can be intriguing, especially once people closely look at the stories behind significant figures. Other players immediately noticed the similarities between Black Myth Wukong and God of War, another gaming franchise highlighting the Greek Gods in the original trilogy, and the Norse deities in the recent entries. However, the games are a much more fictional and ambitious take on the characters.

Sun Wukong takes center stage in this installment and themes related to his lore and the game developers spared no expense to utilize these concepts in the game. Fans think another deity will be at the forefront of the sequel and the developers trademarked two potential leads. One is Jiang Ziya and the other is Zhong Kui, the vanquisher of evil ghosts and spirits.

Zhong Kui is known as the king of ghosts and queller of demons which has all the makings of a great protagonist for an upcoming game. The character is perfect to be featured in a video game, and the developers can dive deep into Chinese culture and infuse dark horror elements to appeal to a wider player base and gain more coverage as the franchise starts to find its footing.

Other fans were creative enough to mock up Jin Sakai, also known as the Ghost of Tsushima, wearing the armor of the Destined One. While Jin is of Japanese descent, the themes are similar since he is known to hunt evil doers tormenting his homeland and become a legend that haunts his enemies. Perhaps Game Science can take a similar approach to Zhong Kui.

Chinese mythology is rich and vast enough to be explored and adapted into other materials. The past of Zhong Kui is a tale of tragedy and great sorrow, failing to protect his title of an academic achiever because of his disfigured physical appearance, he ended his life until he was selected for a higher purpose.

The origin itself sounds like an exciting premise for a great game. Game Science can incorporate mythical locations and allow players to jump in between realities to fulfill their role as the queller of demons.

Zhong Kui is the stuff of legend as people still put up posters in honor of him to fend off evil spirits. Jin’s Ghost persona encouraged his people to feel safe knowing he was there to protect them.

Perhaps Game Science will incorporate different themes and gameplay elements to deliver an authentic experience. In a way, Zhong Kui can be viewed as a hero and watcher of the night skies.
