The entire Hollywood industry was taken aback when Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston announced their separation in 2005. What seemed like a fairytale on the outside quickly crumbled in front of the media. While there were a lot of whispers going about their separation, the duo was tight-lipped during their entire divorce proceedings.
It was only after a couple of years that they started talking about what actually led to the downfall of their marriage. In the midst of this, Angelina Jolie was also brought into the conversation, with several outlets and sources claiming that Pitt cheated on Aniston with Jolie while filming Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2005.
Talking about the same, a past interview of Jolie has resurfaced online, in which she detailed why she would never get herself involved in an affair. She added that she understands what it feels like to be on the other side, given that her father Jon Voight cheated on her mother, Marcheline Bertrand. Further, she said, “I know how much it hurt her,” while talking about her mother.
While she did say she wouldn’t date a married man, her bodyguard, who worked for her during the filming of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, claimed that he spotted Jolie and Pitt kissing on the set of the movie. Plus, he also helped them in exchanging “explicit” notes with each other.
While the duo has never responded to these rumors directly, in a past interview, Pitt did mention that despite the scrutiny, he did not cheat on Aniston.
Brad Pitt Sets the Record Straight on His Separation From Jennifer Aniston
After his divorce from Aniston in 2005 and his subsequent relationship with Jolie, Pitt had mostly kept quiet. But after almost four years, he touched upon the entire matter in 2009. In a candid chat with W Magazine (via CBS), the actor added that he didn’t cheat on the FRIENDS alum, despite what was being printed in the media.
Further, he stated that he and Jolie didn’t get together until after his separation from Aniston. Interestingly, in 2007, Aniston talked about Jolie, who revealed a lot of personal details about herself and Pitt while he was still married to Aniston. She added:
There was stuff printed there that was definitely from a time when I was unaware that it was happening. (Aniston added) I felt those details were a little inappropriate to discuss. That stuff about how she couldn’t wait to get to work every day? That was really uncool.
On this, Pitt defended Aniston, adding that she got unnecessarily pulled into the drama and the entire “Angie versus Jen” fiasco. While it was what he said then, the current dynamics of both Pitt and Jolie are in complete contrast to what it was almost a decade ago.
The duo separated since 2016 and are legally single since 2019.
