Jonathan Majors, who was once among the rising stars of Hollywood, is facing a huge setback in his career after being accused and convicted of reckless assault in the third degree and harassment in the second degree. Majors, who has lost several major projects including his Marvel role, is facing up to one year in prison. His sentencing was set to take place on February 6, which has now been delayed to April 8, 2024.
And more allegations emerged two months after Majors was found guilty in a case stemming from an incident in March 2023 between him and his ex-partner Grace Jabbari. And the new allegations not only threaten Majors’ professional standing but also paint a troubling picture of his conduct both on and off-screen.
Jonathan Majors’ Former Partners Accuse Him of Physical And Emotional Abuse
A new report by The New York Times details the allegations of physical and emotional abuse leveled against Jonathan Majors by his former partners, Emma Duncan and Maura Hooper. The two women have shared their experiences from dating the 34-year-old actor between 2013 and 2019, describing him as “a controlling, threatening figure who isolated them from friends and career pursuits.”
Duncan shared that her relationship with the Creed III star was marked by physical and emotional abuse at the hands of Majors. “You lose your sense of worth,” she told the outlet. According to The New York Times, Emma Duncan was engaged to Jonathan Majors from 2015 to 2019, during which she suffered alleged incidents of violence, including being slammed to a mailbox and thrown to the ground, along with being threatened with her life.
Maura Hooper, whose relationship with Majors overlapped with Duncan’s, echoed similar sentiments, detailing a relationship filled with manipulation and intimidation. She shared that she was “not allowed to speak to anyone about their relationship” before adding, “I felt trapped and alone.”
The Devotion actor reportedly threatened Hooper even after their split, calling her a “w**re,” and telling her to “die; kill yourself.” Both women also recalled Majors “love bombing” them in the earlier stages of the relationship and would go on to threaten to kill himself throughout their relationship. Not just his former partners, the actor is also being accused of displaying a pattern of volatility and aggression toward female workers while working on Lovecraft Country.
Jonathan Majors Reportedly Showcased Troubling Behavior on the Set of Lovecraft Country
In addition to the allegations made by Emma Duncan and Maura Hopper, the New York Times report also highlights Jonathan Majors’ problematic behavior on the set of HBO’s Lovecraft Country. Citing the interview of 20 people, including the cast and crew members, the report states that Majors’ behavior depended on the people he was surrounded by.
The actor is described as having a friendly relationship with the “male technicians and craftspeople.” However, he showcased a contrary behavior when it came to women on set, who allegedly warned each other to “tread carefully around him.”
Lisa Zugschwerdt and Jessica Pollini, who worked as assistant directors, along with multiple female crew members, also recalled Majors’ volatile behavior on set. They claimed that the Gully actor made them feel trapped and scared. “I’m thinking, how am I going to get out of this situation?” said Pollini. Zugschwerdt also recounted her experience with him, saying that he “got really up in my face” and made a degrading racial comment about her looks.
Majors’ lawyer Priya Chaudhry has told the Times that his relationship with Duncan and Hopper was “toxic” and he “did say hurtful things,” but denied most of the claims of physical abuse. As for the allegations made by Lovecraft Country cast and crew, Chaudhary claimed that the Emmy-nominated actor was never told that “anyone objected” to his behavior.
