His father has been an active figure of the story for a long time but even the mention of his mother seems to be slim. As a result, the theory of Crocodile being Luffy’s mom made a surprising surge in popularity. It isn’t just something about his being Luffy’s mother that may be interesting but rather what compelled him to allegedly change his gender in the first place.

One Piece May Make Crocodile a Former Empress

According to a theory proposed by RoronoaLuffyZoro on the One Piece Fanpage, Crocodile’s past as a woman may be all but certain. Crocodile’s past is as cryptic as it gets. Eiichiro Oda hasn’t revealed so much about him, perhaps on purpose more so than anything else. One of the things that seem so unusual and layered is his past with Emporio Ivankov.

During the Impel Down arc, Iva hinted at how he knew more about Crocodile than anyone else. He stated as to how there was a secret between the two of them, one that kept Crocodile in check more often than not. However, that wasn’t all to pique the curiosity of the fans.

Iva went on to reveal the powers of his devil fruit Horu Horu no Mi. He gained the ability to control and change the hormones of anyone’s body, allowing them to swap their genders to and fro. Very quickly, fans started spiraling about, thinking if Crocodile had in fact been a woman before and was now simply hiding that fact.

Crocodile Escaped the Sickness of Amazon Lily

The women of Amazon Lily have always found themselves cautious when dealing with the sickness of falling in love. The plaguing effects are a never-ending turmoil for the Kuja empresses who find themselves captivated by a man. It was said that before Boa Hancock found herself as the Empress of Amazon Lily, the previous died due to the sickness of falling in love.

There is a strong case that she may not have died. On the contrary, she may have survived and escaped. Boa Hancock became the Empress at the age of 18, now 31 years old. The previous empress was also around the age of 31 when she left so if we were to see her now, she would be around 44 years old, the same age as Crocodile.

There is a strong possibility that the previous empress ran away from the island in order to escape the sickness of falling in love by changing their gender. Another way that could be done is by running away from Amazon Lily. Crocodile may have combined those two to escape the clutches of death.
