The James Bond franchise has been around for a long time and many actors have brought our favorite British secret service agent to life on multiple occasions. Most recently, Daniel Craig played the role of Agent 007 after first taking up the role in Casino Royale in 2006. However, after playing the role of Bond in 5 movies, Craig decided to retire from the role in No Time to Die.

Pierce Brosnan talks about the possibility of having a female James Bond

Pierce Brosnan went on to play the role of iconic British secret service agent, James Bond in 4 movies when he first took up the role back in 1995. Once back in 2015, Brosnan opened up about the future of the character after Daniel Craig retires and revealed that he believes the character can go to a black actor but not to a woman. He said,

“Anything is possible for sure, but I think he’ll be male and he’ll be white. There are wonderful black actors out there who could be James Bond, and there’s no reason why you cannot have a black James Bond. But a female James Bond, no, I think it has to be male. James Bond is a guy, he’s all male. His name is James, his name is James Bond.”

Pierce Brosnan once even voiced his support to cast Idris Elba as the next Bond after Daniel Craig back in 2015. He said,

“Let’s start with a great black actor being James Bond. Idris Elba certainly has the physicality, the charisma, the presence but I think Daniel will be there for a while yet.”

Idris Elba turned down the role of ‘Agent 007’ recently

Ever since the release of No Time to Die, the fans have been curious to know who would take up the role of Agent 007 this time. Even before Daniel Craig, many great actors like Sean Connery, and Roger Moore have portrayed the role of Bond in the past. Ever since Craig gave up the part, fans have been asking Idris Elba to take up the role of the beloved British secret service agent but the actor officially refused earlier this year in February. Elba said,

“You know, a lot of people talk about another character that begins with ‘J’ and ends with ‘B,’ but I’m not going to be that guy. I’m going to be John Luther. That’s who I am.”

The thing about the James Bond movies is that the franchise needs an actor who can do multiple movies and play the role of Bond for almost 10-15 years and no one is looking for that kind of commitment.
