Aubrey Plaza is known for her deadpan style. The actress had her first leading role as Darius Britt in the 2012 comedy Safety Not Guaranteed (2012). From her role as April Roberta Ludgate-Dwyer in Parks and Recreation to unhinged Ingrid Thorburn in Ingrid Goes West, she has nailed every role.

Plaza has also previously portrayed Amahl Farouk/Shadow King and Lenny Busker in the 20th Century Fox Television production Legion, based on Marvel Comics.

And now, she is set to make her official debut again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming series Agatha: Coven of Chaos. However, there is a rumor she will be playing none other than the personification of Death itself (a witch in Harkness and Calderu’s coven).

No doubt, Plaza has played some of the most blank and serious characters in her life, but people misunderstand her on-screen characters with her real-life personality.

“Yeah, some of them, a lot of people that recognise me kind of back away. They don’t come towards me.”

The White Lotus actress then continued:

“Yeah, I think because I play characters that are mean.”

She recalled an incident when she was in New Orleans when a couple came up from behind her and said: “You’re her, you’re her. Say something mean”

And she went like: “Leave me alone.”

Plaza continued that the couple didn’t go away and just kept laughing constantly and saying, “Do it again!”

Everybody knows that Aubrey Plaza plays mean, and she plays it well. Whether from herself or society’s expectations, her characters mostly include women with an undertone of disconnectivity. Plaza once told Digital Spy, referring to the characters she played: “I like that description.”

She continued:

“I’m definitely drawn to complicated characters, but I think I am drawn to characters that are, like misunderstood or that feel like the odd one out. Or something like the underdog?”

During a 2020 interview with BuzzFeed, Plaza was asked what she thinks is the biggest misconception about her. To this question, the actress seemed to answer in one line. She said that people tie her too closely to the personality she plays on TV. She explained:

“People think I don’t care about anything but the truth is I care too much.”

Aubrey Plaza’s character determines how skillful of a person she is in playing those mean characters, but that doesn’t define her real-life personality. In actuality, she has wit and her own special flair that nobody else can measure up to.
