Chris Evans, the man the world came to know as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is quite similar to his on-screen persona. The actor quickly shut down co-star Frank Grillo for a racist comment during an interview which turned into an awkward moment.

Frank Grillo made a borderline offensive joke that could have ended badly if he would have continued with it. The Captain America actor however was quick to the rescue with a sane and mindful reply that somehow saved the interview from drowning into chaos.

When Chris Evans Shut His Co-star Up For Racist Remarks

With Netflix trying out comedic interviews like Between Two Ferns and others, a talk show series was created back in 2016. Starring Chelsea Handler as the host of the show, the interviews sometimes went a little bit overboard with the amount of comedic humor that should be portrayed.

During one of the normal talks when Chris Evans and his Captain America: The Winter Soldier co-star Frank Grillo, the latter star made a racist remark. Talking about the gender pay gap in the Hollywood industry, Grillo talked about dark-skinned people while having the word in air quotes. Talking about the discrimination in Hollywood, Frank Grillo joked about the plight of Italians and gave air quotes when talking about “black people”.

Chris Evans was quick to shut down Frank Grillo however as he pointed out the odd gesturing that he did. He further went on to talk about the problems faced by men in the Hollywood industry and it isn’t just the females that suffer from the gender-gap pay.

“Being a guy, it’s a radically different landscape … I think there is a gender gap that is ubiquitous in Hollywood. I think a lot of times it’s hard to even identify.”

The interview was not at all smooth since there were many moments like these and the show never became as popular as other comedic talk shows. Airing in 2016, the show titled Chelsea quickly found its end in 2017 with 2 seasons to its name.

Starring alongside Chris Evans wasn’t enough for Grillo as he recently switched sides and joined the DCU. Portraying the role of Brock Rumlow aka Crossbones in the MCU, Frank Grillo didn’t like the way how Marvel Studios treated his character.

“Crossbones was there for a minute, but he was supposed to be there longer, then they went the direction they did. I think Crossbones serves a purpose, but I think the interesting thing is that if you see how many people around the world have responded to Crossbones, and again, he’s on the screen for a very f–king short amount of time, I think there’s more there. I think there was more meat on the bone. I was disappointed, which is why I went over to DC.”

The actor has recently confirmed his DC role and stated that he would star in the upcoming project Creature Commandos. Although it hasn’t been entirely confirmed yet, there are heavy rumors that Frank Grillo has already left the side of Chris Evans to pursue the DCU role alongside James Gunn and Peter Safran.
