Host David Niven was able to laugh off the situation by joking on the scene that Opal had to literally strip n*ked just to get a laugh out of people. As reported by The Guardian, Niven’s comments were soon taken up by Elizabeth Taylor who added her own little joke in the mix.
David Niven said, “ [It was] almost bound to happen … but isn’t it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will get in his life is stripping off and showing his shortcomings”.
Elizabeth Taylor had another little remark to add on top of this joke since she was the next in line to perform on the stage after the naked photographer. The actress joked that the act of the gay rights activist was “a pretty hard act to follow”.
Jennifer Lawrence Mistook An Old Lady For Elizabeth Taylor
Elizabeth Taylor met her fate in March 2011. Jennifer Lawrence was unaware of the fact that Taylor had been deceased for quite some time now since she saw an old lady and mistook her for the late actress and started chatting with her! In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actress shared her awkward tale.
“In my head, I just went, ‘This is Elizabeth Taylor’, who was dead at the time. She’s still dead. But I didn’t know that. Then my friend walks by and I grab her, and I was like, ‘This is Elizabeth Taylor!’ And she was like, ‘No it’s not!’ and I just took off running. I just sprinted, and my shoes fell off, and I hid behind this wall.”
Well, this is something that can be expected from Jennifer Lawrence. The story of Robert Opel and his streak created international news and did give some spotlight to gay rights activists at that time.
