With this reimagination being made for modern times, the themes and elements of this classic film might be changed to a certain extent, which will be interesting to see. A classic tale in the film industry is always one that has the eyes of the creative types ready to take their own twist to the story, which is exactly what is happening with Benedict Cumberbatch‘s next film The Roses, a re-imagination of the 1989 classic starring Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas.

The upcoming film is naturally set to be a dark comedy taken from the past and put into modern times, a script for which is being prepared by Tony McNamara, famous for his contributions to writing the Oscar-nominated film Poor Things.

It was recently revealed to the public that this movie, which will feature Academy Award-winning actress Olivia Colman besides the Doctor Strange star, will also be directed by prolific filmmaker Jay Roach and will be made for Searchlight Pictures (via Variety).

Along with that, it’s being reported that Cumberbatch will also be in the producer’s chair under his SunnyMarch banner with Leah Clarke, Adam Ackland, as well as Colman, who will produce the film via the South of the River banner.

While the final script for the film is still unknown to the public, we can expect a similar plot to the original, which portrayed a picture-perfect couple struggling to hold it together as the husband loses his career, which turns their life into a constant battle fueled by envy and competition.

As the announcement for the film went out to the public, many expressed interest in what the film has to offer when it’s released, while a majority felt like a remake was very unnecessary.
