James Gunn Started Filming on Superman’s Birthday
Superman started filming surprisingly on the DC superhero’s birthday. The filmmaker took to social media to reveal the news, saying that “coincidentally and unplanned” the principal photography for the movie started on Superman’s birthday.
He also shared the first glimpse of the Kryptonian superhero’s costume, featuring his iconic logo peeking out from under the snow, along with revealing the updated title for the film. “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy,” he said before adding, “By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN.”
It will be the first film under the revamped DC Universe, initiated by the filmmaker’s announcement of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. David Corenswet is set to portray Clark Kent, also known as Superman, with Rachel Brosnahan joining as Lois Lane.
Nicholas Hoult, recognized for his roles in The Menu, X-Men, and Mad Max, has been cast as the DC villain Lex Luthor. Written and directed by James Gunn, the film is anticipated to explore Kal-El’s journey as he navigates the delicate balance between his Kryptonian heritage and his upbringing on Earth.
