Call of Duty developers Infinity Ward just posted a job on Activision’s official website for the position of Expert UI Engineer. The job listing also mentioned the location being a new studio in Austin, Texas. Infinity Ward studios are spread around Woodland Hills, California, alongside Poland and Mexico. The new Austin studio will be the latest addition for the developers.
Infinity Ward was established back in 2002 and was acquired by Activision in 2003, just ahead of the release of the first Call of Duty title. The latest title in the Call of Duty franchise was released earlier this month to less than impressive reviews.
New Texas Studio Aims to Bring Innovative Experiences to future Call of Duty Titles
Infinity Ward mentioned in the job listing that the newest studio will look to create new and innovative experiences for the Call of Duty gaming franchise. The first listing posted a few days back is for an Expert UI Engineer, and at the time of writing, two more recruitment adverts have been posted by Infinity Ward for their new Texas studio.
In the listing for an Expert UI Engineer role, Infinity Ward mentioned that the particular role will be actively coding and engineering UI screens for various aspects of their franchise title. The position required the candidate to have a minimum of 7 years of UI development experience with at least 1 shipped product where the candidate worked as a Senior UI Engineer.
Optional requirements for the candidates included experience with “console development”. Surprisingly, only the older consoles were listed, including Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
Apart from this, Infinity Ward is also recruiting for an Expert Gameplay Engineer with more than 5 years of development experience, and the candidate must also have a shipped product to their name whilst having worked as a Senior Gameplay Engineer. The target for the specific role mentioned is to push gameplay systems as much as possible to reach “new heights of AAA fun and visual fidelity”.
Finally, Infinity Ward is also recruiting an Expert AI Gameplay Engineer. The recruited candidate for this role will also end up working from Infinity Ward’s newest studio in Texas. There are also open positions for 19 roles in the California office and three other roles are being recruited for the Poland office.
The franchise recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, and Activision listed out the studios and teams along with a list of all of the Call of Duty titles on the Call of Duty website.
Listing out the studios in alphabetical order, the studios include a Central Design studio, a Localization studio in Dublin, Activision QA, a Studio in Shanghai, Beenox, Demonware, Digital Legends Entertainment, High Moon Studios, Infinity Ward, Raven Software, Sledgehammer Games, Solid State Studios, Team Ricochet, Toys for Bob, and Treyarch.
Amidst Massive Layoffs, New Infinity Ward Studios and New Activision Projects Could Create Several New Jobs
In the middle of all the layoffs that have painted a grim picture of an otherwise amazing year for gaming, the news of new studios being opened brings hope. Infinity Ward also opened a new art-focused office in Barcelona, Spain, earlier this year. This brings the total number of studios owned by parent company Activision to more than a dozen.
As for possibilities about what future job openings could pop up at Austin, the advert for the recruitment has mentioned the studio will focus on Call of Duty titles. The advert mentions,
The studio will work on creating new and innovative experiences for Call of Duty® and create state of the art technology to power them.
With Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile all set to release by Spring next year, there’s a high chance of more support teams being put together soon. All of these developments point to the next Call of Duty being a lot more polished and a bigger title compared to past titles in the Call of Duty franchise. For now, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is out and is available to play globally.
