The 2019 MCU film, Captain Marvel, featuring Brie Larson in the lead role, has not been a fan favorite for Marvel fans. They have openly stated issues they have with the film and its star. However, despite the massive backlash following its lead star, the studio has followed up with its plan, and Larson is set to return as the Marvel superhero in her next film. The studio released the official trailer of The Marvels earlier this week.
The trailer features the Captain Marvel star alongside Iman Vellani and Teyonah Parris and has received a mixed reaction. While some are excited about the superhero team-up, others do not have a great feeling about the sequel. And the odds do not seem in its favor, considering the trailer’s like and dislike ratio.
Brie Larson’s The Marvel Bombarded With Dislikes
Despite being commercially successful at the box office, the 2019 Marvel film, Captain Marvel, was not received very well by many MCU fans. They shared their issues with the 2019 film and its lead star Brie Larson on social media. And their opinion doesn’t seem to change much as Marvel Studios released the first teaser trailer of its sequel, The Marvels.
The trailer was released earlier this week, and many found it impressive. However, several Marvel fans do not like the trailer and consider The Marvels to be another failure of the MCU. So far, the trailer has garnered over 15 million views with more than 450,000 likes and over 500,000 dislikes.
With more than half a million dislikes, The Marvels trailer has become one of the most disliked MCU trailers. There is also a possibility that the dislike count not being entirely accurate, as YouTube removed public access to the dislike counter in 2021. The reported count is measured with the extensions that allow the function.
Comments regarding the film being the studio’s other “woke” project. It is also assumed that the increase in dislikes is the result of the toxic online trolls dislike-bombing the trailer of the upcoming film.
Why Do Some Marvel Fans Not Like Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel?
Marvel fans’ deviated opinions about Captain Marvel and the film started before the release of the 2019 film. It was the first female lead solo MCU movie, and Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, was slated to be the most powerful superhero in the MCU. Many Marvel fans seemingly did not find the idea pleasing, leading to hate campaigns against the film on social media.
The backlash intensified after the lead star talked about the lack of diversity in superhero films. However, despite the backlash, the 2019 film did great at the box office, and Brie Larson was also appreciated for her performance.
The sequel, however, doesn’t focus solely on Carol Danvers. The Marvels also features Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau. The film follows the three Marvel heroes teaming up after their power get entangled with each other.
The Marvels will release on Novermber 10, 2023.
