Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness received a mixed response from Marvel fans. Most of the criticism from fans was directed at Elizabeth Olsen’s character Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch. While many people liked it for exploring the multiverse, others were disappointed with how the character arc Wanda had in the sequel, followed by the events of WandaVision. Turning her into a villain did not sit well with the fans.

I feel like we’ve done so much. Now, we can really have fun; I feel like there’s a lot more humor to be had with her. She’s often the emotion of a story, and I’m curious to see what we can explore. And hopefully [we can] give her some redemption.

She was also asked if she would return to the upcoming Disney+ series, Agatha: House of Chaos. Elizabeth Olsen said that she does not know how to answer these kinds of questions before saying that she thinks she’ll come back with the WandaVision spinoff.

Doctor Strange 2 Received a Lot of Backlash From Fans

Wanda Maximoff has been through a lot as she lost her parents when she was just a kid, went through Strucker’s experiments, lost her brother, and had to kill the love of her life, Vision to save the world. However, the character went through a transition in the 2022 film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as she goes on a rampage to get to her kids in the multiverse.

The film also suffered the MCU’s Phase 4 curse as fans were disappointed with the sequel. The sudden character arc for Wanda Maximoff, which made her Scarlet Witch, seem rushed. After being through so much since her childhood, the studio goes on to represent her as a “desperate mother” going to any limits to get to her children.

The story seemed contradicted to what fans expected. The trailer seems to portray Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen joining forces in the sequel. However, they were actually against each other, and Wanda turned out to be the main antagonist of the story.

Fans were also disappointed as they claimed that the makers ignored the whole plot and developments of WandaVision just to portray her as a villain. And although the film seemed to conclude her story, there have been expectations and rumors to see her back in the MCU.

She is also expected to return with the WandaVision spin-off featuring Kathryn Hahn, Agatha: House of Chaos. The show is expected to either bring her back or pave the path for her return to the MCU. And with the superheroes from the multiverse joining forces against Kang, she could also have her comeback in the upcoming Avengers movies.

The studio is also working on Wonder Man and Vision Quest series. Wonder Man has close ties with both Wanda and Vision and both of these series could serve as a gateway for her comeback. However, the studio has not confirmed anything yet.
