The Office was a sitcom-workplace comedy type of show that ran for a duration of nine seasons from 2005 to 2013. Apart from acting, Carell is a well-known scriptwriter, producer, and director which he aptly showed in the TV show as he acted as all these and also wrote the scripts for multiple episodes.
During an interview on the Office Ladies podcast with The Office stars Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, and Steve Carell, he shared why he left the show abruptly.
“It was time for other characters to step to the forefront and other storylines to be pursued. I think it was the right, the timing was right, I think for everybody but simultaneously there’s just a sense of joy for me that we had experienced all of this and we were getting.
I was getting a chance to take a lap with everybody. And the way those last two episodes were structured, it felt very rich to me to simultaneously be saying goodbye as Michael and us as friends in this moment of work together. But, yeah, it was a lot, it was a very emotional thing.”
He went on to add that as he had already earned millions of dollars and millions of hearts from the show, it was right for him to step down from the podium and let his co-stars and the other junior actors take the lead and step into the limelight.
It was a very heart-warming reason for all of his fans, followers, and admirers and his respect within the industry just sky-rocketed. Many are thankful to him for carrying out such a task, he was the hero everybody needed but not the one they deserved.
