Cruise’s next science fiction film will be an as-yet-untitled project that will be shot on the International Space Station. The film will be directed by Doug Liman, who also directed Edge of Tomorrow, a science fiction action film wherein Cruise plays a soldier who is repeatedly killed in battle and then wakes up the day before the battle to fight again. The film is an adaptation of the Japanese novel All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka.
Tom Cruise has a history of doing his own stunts, no matter how daring they might be
Tom Cruise is known for his daredevil stunts in action movies. He has hung off jet airplanes, scaled skyscrapers, and zoomed through traffic on a motorcycle. His latest stunt will be to perform a spacewalk outside the International Space Station (ISS). This spacewalk sure is risky business, but knowing Cruise, he will obviously be doing it. This endeavor will require Cruise to undergo extensive training in order to safely perform the spacewalk. If Cruise is successful, it will be a groundbreaking moment in cinema history. It would be the first time that a civilian will perform a spacewalk for a movie.
Cruise’s signature daredevil DNA will be tested in this upcoming project. A zero-gravity spacewalk is a dangerous and demanding undertaking, even for trained astronauts. Cruise will need to be at the top of his game in order to safely complete the stunt. The project is still in the early stages of planning, but it is clear that Cruise is committed to making it happen. If he is successful, it will be a testament to his dedication to his craft and his willingness to push himself to the limit.
The upcoming ‘space’ project
Donna Langley, Chairman of the Universal Filmed Entertainment Group, gave up some insider info on the upcoming film, which is “still an aspiration at this stage,” in an interview with the folks at the BBC. According to Langley,
“Tom Cruise is taking us to space; he’s taking the world to space. That’s the plan. We have a great project in development with Tom.”
Cruise will be “the first civilian to do a spacewalk outside of the space station” if Universal grants the project approval. The overall premise of the film, which Langley didn’t go into great depth about, is that it “actually takes place on earth, and then the character needs to go up to space to save the day.”
“We have a great project in development with Tom, that does contemplate him doing just that. Taking a rocket up to the space station and shooting, and hopefully being the first civilian to do a spacewalk outside of the space station.”
Reportedly, the film is to have a $200 million production budget. Well, the bigger the bill the harder you ball, it seems.
