Pushing Nevada lawmakers to pass an annual $190M package of tax credits to start film production in Las Vegas, Mark Wahlberg is pitching his ambitious vision. Previously declaring his desire to build a “state-of-the-art” studio and turn Las Vegas into “Hollywood 2.0”, Wahlberg appears to be pursuing the US government for some help.
Mark Wahlberg Wants Film Production In Las Vegas
In an attempt to impress his wife, Rhea Durham, the $400M rich Mark Wahlberg bought an extra special property in Las Vegas. Relocating from LA to Vegas in 2022, the couple decided to start a new life with their kids, in their new house. Reportedly spending $30-35 million, the couple settled on a 2.5-acre plot in Sin City, with high-level security.
Previously leaving behind their luxurious Beverly Hills mansion, Mark Wahlberg and his family moved to Las Vegas after his wife made plans to relocate to Florida. However, it appears that the 51-year-old actor not only left his notable mansion but also gave up on several great career-changing opportunities in Hollywood. Losing multiple franchises, including Transformers, Wahlberg seems to be going desperate to turn Las Vegas into Hollywood 2.0.
Willing to work closer to his home Mark Wahlberg is planning to start film production in Vegas. Turning the desert-based land into entertainment studios, Wahlberg previously pitched his ambitious vision, as he declared his wish to build a “state-of-the-art” studio.
Mark Wahlberg Lobbies To Turn Vegas Into Hollywood
Expressing his desire of turning Las Vegas into Hollywood 2.0, Mark Wahlberg has been repeatedly pushing Nevada lawmakers to pass a package of tax credits worth $190M annually for starting a production business in Vegas. Lobbying the US government on Wednesday to pass the bill for film production, Wahlberg has been mentioning the benefits of his plan.
He stated to CNBC,
“I would love to see us building studios, creating jobs, and just diversifying the economy. I’ve moved my last film here. I’m shooting another film here coming up in the summertime.”
Stating his absolute goal of boosting the film and TV industry in Sin City, Wahlberg even mentioned the lucrative employment opportunities that would branch out from his actual mission. “We’re looking to create 10,000 jobs on the studio alone,” the actor mentioned. Purposefully focusing on locals of Vegas, the 51-year-old stated, “We want to train people both in front of and behind the camera, create jobs, most importantly, first and foremost, for locals.”
Upon analyzing Wahlberg’s effective plan, even Nevada lawmakers are set to vote on a bill that would increase tax credits. “There’s so much growth and so much potential, it’s a wonderful opportunity for everybody to prosper” Wahlberg proposed. Even Sony Pictures CEO, Tony Vinciquerra virtually lobbied for the passage, on Wednesday. The company even committed to spending $1B on film production in Nevada.
It appears Mark Wahlberg’s billion-dollar idea of turning Vegas into Hollywood, to boost the economy, is slowly taking shape as tech giants come together to co-sponsor the bill.
