Avatar: The Last Airbender is going to see a large influx of content as Paramount, under the banner of Avatar Studios, gears up to expand the universe to make it into an IP on par with Star Wars and Harry Potter. While the next entry in the franchise is going to be an adult Gaang film in 2025, the studio is also eyeing to release a third animated series in the franchise, one that will follow the Earth Avatar, who will take over as the bridge between the spirit and the mortal realm from their predecessor Korra.
The Legend of Korra, the sequel to The Last Airbender, was able to expand on the concepts that were introduced in the original animated series, and it is possible that the series that will follow the Earth Avatar will further expand what has been introduced in the world of Avatar. One theory suggests that an ability could be explored in the reign of the Earth Avatar, one that would put them on the same level of lethality as Water Benders.
The third Avatar series could introduce bonebending into the franchise
The world of Avatar in it a magic system that based itself on the four classical elements. However, the show soon expanded into sub-bending abilities, the kind that made their wielders extremely dangerous opponents. Bloodbending was one such ability that was introduced on the show, which made water benders lethal assassins who could kill an opponent if they wished.
Similarly, a theory suggests that the Earthbenders might finally get their lethal ability, which would put them in the same weight class as Waterbenders. Given that bones have certain pure elements in them that are also present in the crust of the earth, the Earth Avatar could introduce this type of bending into the world.
A lot of time will have allegedly passed between Korra and the Earth Avatar
The Earth Avatar show will allegedly take place a hundred years after the events of the Legend of Korra, which might show us a world that is far more developed than what we say in the sequel series. The vibe of the time period in which Legend of Korra was set was that of 1920s Shanghai and Manhattan, which might put the time period of the story closer to the modern world than ever.
With bending, of course, the world of Avatar would have developed slightly differently than the real world. Provided there are no major cataclysms in the tenure of Korra as the Avatar, the Earth Avatar would be operating in an industrial and modern world, one that is perhaps less spiritually attuned than the world that was inherited by their predecessors.
This could result in audiences being thrust into a very different world, which would be a novel experience for old and new fans of the franchise alike. Information on the Earth Avatar might be scarce now, but audiences can expect a slew of it in the near future, as the show remains in active development.
