Everything about Chris Evans’ Captain America is iconic. From the star-spangled shield to the “Avengers Assemble” war cry during Avengers: Endgame, the super serum-infused hero is a part of the global pop-culture fabric. However, his MCU successor, Anthony Mackie, isn’t down to give Evans the respect he deserves. The Sam Wilson actor thinks the old Captain is getting lazy. It looks like Wilson is doubling down on Evans’ criticism since he also hinted at his Captain being superior to Evans’ hero.

In a March 2021 interview with Josh Horowitz for his Happy Sad Confused podcast, MCU’s new Captain America, Anthony Mackie, subtly threw shade at Chris Evans for his homebody lifestyle during The Falcon and the Winter Soldier press tour. Horowitz asked Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie to text Evans and see who he responds to first.

Mackie received the first reply from Evans and then Stan got it a couple of minutes later. But later on, when Evans spoke during an MTV interview, he revealed that Mackie had set him up. He had requested Evans to text him first. However, since the Captain America actor received Mackie’s text first either way so he obliged him before Stan.

In a new interview done by Horowitz, he asked Mackie about rigging the competition. The Sam Wilson actor admitted to it because he wanted to win. As for Chris Evans, Mackie threw him under the bus and said that he and Stan have turned into old men who like staying at home. He said:

“No, no, no, he’s just like a dude that stays at home and don’t do nothing. I’m like, ‘Yo, what we doing? You wanna go to dinner?’ He’s like, ‘I’m kind of making a kale salad.’ And like, what are we doing? What are we doing? What are we doing? Him and Sebastian, they’ve turned into old men.”

The actor further elaborated on his statement and said that he’s the only one who goes outside anymore. Mackie said:

“Yo, I’m the only one outside. They’re not outside no more. I called Sebastian last week, I was like, ‘Yo, we’re doing it. We’re doing it. I’m coming to New York.’ And he’s like, ‘Well, you know, I just– I kind of have to– I’m working on this thing.’ And what are you doing? We outside!”

While Mackie is just joking about Stan and Evans, his views about the latter actor’s Captain America aren’t that playful since he thinks that the American hero is an antithesis of his new Captain America.

During a recent interview with Empire Magazine, MCU star Anthony Mackie shared his thoughts about his new Captain America leading the Avengers during the next mega-crossover film. The actor said that Sam is the only one who doesn’t have powers. Mackie espoused:

“Sam is the only character without superpowers. He’s just a regular dude hanging out with a bunch of weirdos. Being from New Orleans, I’ve been in a few fights. And heart and charisma never helped me in a fight. That usually just got me beat up. So that might cause an issue when you go fight somebody like Thanos.”

Then in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the Marvel star doubled down on the point that his character is a regular guy whereas Evans’ Steve Rogers is a hero souped up on the super soldier serum. As per the star:

“Remember, he’s (Sam Wilson) a counselor and he’s a regular guy who just happened to become an Avenger. There’s no superpowers, there’s no super-suit, there’s no super-serum. He’s just a guy. I love the idea of him moving through life as Captain America, as someone who brings peace and change instead of destruction and physical force.”

If not Mackie’s new Captain America, then who will lead the new team of Avengers in the upcoming fight against Kang? Fans think Holland’s Spider-Man is the best candidate. But ultimately it all depends on what Marvel Studios wants to do.
