In 2021 it was announced that the John Wick director, Chad Stahelski would be working on a Ghost of Tsushima movie. The action-adventure game follows the story of samurai warrior Jin Sakai, who gets indulged in an unconventional war for the freedom of Tsushima. The game was first released in 2020 and received a huge response. After this, Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions decided to work with Stahelski and his production company, 87Eleven Entertainment, to develop a film based on the game.
And considering the huge success of the recently released TV series based on The Last of Us game franchise, the director wants to start working on the project as soon as possible. During his recent interview with Total Films, the director shared a new update on his upcoming project.

Chad Stahelski Shares Update on Ghost of Tsushima Movie
For the past few years, Chad Stahelski has been busy with his upcoming film, John Wick 4. When Sony and PlayStation announced the Ghost of Tsushima movie, the director was about to start the filming for John Wick 4. And as the Keanu Reeves starrer is set to release in March this year, the director has finally shared an update on the Ghost of Tsushima adaptation.
During his interview with Total Films, Stahelski said, “We have a really great script. We have a really good creative team behind it. It’s just about getting all the business end of things locked in.” He shared that it’s a “special” project for him and that it “would be [his] favorite [film] to do next.”
However, many things are not settled yet. The American director shared, “There’s just a lot of things to put together before we really pull the trigger on making it, mostly from my side creatively.” He said that they are in the process of putting everything together for the project and as soon as they can they will start production.
From Stahelski’s statements, it appears that production on the film has yet to begin. The director has several projects lined up right now, including a Highlander reboot and a film titled, Black Samurai.
Although Stahelski has stated that he would love to work on a Ghost of Tsushima film, it may not be his priority right now, considering that many things related to the projects are still undone. Earlier, Stahelski shared that he wants to make the Ghost of Tsushima movie in the Japanese language with a Japanese cast.

Chad Stahelski Wants to Make Ghost of Tsushima Movie in Japanese
During an interview with Collider, Chad Stahelski shared that he wants to make the Ghost of Tsushima movie in Japanese. He shared that he has a lot of love for the East Asian country as he has been visiting Japan since he was 16 years old.
And as the story follows the invasion of Tsushima island by Mongols, the director thinks that making the film with a Japanese cast in their native language would make sense. He also said that Sony is also “backing” the idea.
The film is still in its pre-production process and considering Stahelski is still busy with his upcoming film, John Wick: Chapter 4, it may take a little longer for him to start working on the Ghost of Tsushima project.
John Wick: Chapter 4 is set to release on 24 March 2023.
