During his interview with Total Films, Stahelski said, “We have a really great script. We have a really good creative team behind it. It’s just about getting all the business end of things locked in.” He shared that it’s a “special” project for him and that it “would be [his] favorite [film] to do next.”

However, many things are not settled yet. The American director shared, “There’s just a lot of things to put together before we really pull the trigger on making it, mostly from my side creatively.” He said that they are in the process of putting everything together for the project and as soon as they can they will start production.

From Stahelski’s statements, it appears that production on the film has yet to begin. The director has several projects lined up right now, including a Highlander reboot and a film titled, Black Samurai.

Although Stahelski has stated that he would love to work on a Ghost of Tsushima film, it may not be his priority right now, considering that many things related to the projects are still undone. Earlier, Stahelski shared that he wants to make the Ghost of Tsushima movie in the Japanese language with a Japanese cast.

And as the story follows the invasion of Tsushima island by Mongols, the director thinks that making the film with a Japanese cast in their native language would make sense. He also said that Sony is also “backing” the idea.

The film is still in its pre-production process and considering Stahelski is still busy with his upcoming film, John Wick: Chapter 4, it may take a little longer for him to start working on the Ghost of Tsushima project.
