During a previous interview with Total Film, Taron Egerton disclosed that he was never involved in conversations about playing James Bond. He also stated that he did not believe he was the right person for the role, and that there were far better candidates out there.

“It’s not me,I was never part of the conversations. They’ve never enquired about me. I’ve just never been one of the guys that they’re looking at. I just don’t think I’m the right person for that. I think there’s much, much, much better candidates for that role than me. But, you know, I’d be a very willing audience member. They’re brilliant films.”

Egerton is not the only actor who has withdrawn from running for the role of James Bond. Idris Elba had previously declared that he would not be playing the character.

Producer Barbara Broccoli had also indicated that the next James Bond movie would represent a reinvention of the character, and it could take some time to find the right person for the role.

Broccoli also noted that when they select an actor to play Bond, it is a 10-12 year commitment, which not everyone may be interested in pursuing.
