In the world of franchises like Star Wars, MCU, DC, and more, Bad Boys has been quietly existing and steadily growing. The Will Smith and Martin Lawrence-led film franchise has been going from strength to strength over the course of three successful films. Bad Boys 4 has also been announced. But there are now questions if the next one will perform as well as the first three at the box office.

The highly publicized Will Smith fiasco could put a wrench in the franchise’s upwards trajectory at the box office. But that’s not their only problem. The upcoming film has also recast one actor who has been a part of the previous three films. It now remains to be seen if the fourth film can recreate the magic of its predecessors and keep the money train moving.

At the 2023 CinemaCon, Martin Lawrence and Will Smith stepped out to promote the film and revealed that filming is underway and has been so for about four weeks. There are high expectations from the upcoming film because of how well the first three have performed.

The first Bad Boys grossed $141 million at the global box office, the second one earned $273 million, and Bad Boys for Life grossed a shocking $426 million on a $90 million budget. However, Will Smith’s Oscar slap could prove to be a problem because the actor’s reputation with the general public has degraded quite a lot.

When Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards, it sent a shockwave across Hollywood. A year has passed since the incident and the intensity of the night has subsided long ago. Even though initially there were talks of Smith getting blacklisted from Hollywood, that didn’t happen.

However, even with the situation returning to normal again, there’s fear that his actions have irreparably impacted his goodwill with audiences. So there’s no way to know how Bad Boys 4 will be received by them. But Martin Lawrence thinks that it could be the best of the franchise. When Lawrence got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Entertainment Tonight chatted with him about Bad Boys 4.

The actor was confident in the film and said that was on track to be the best. The star said, “It has the chance to be the best one of them all and everybody’s doing their thing. We got a lot of the team back from the last one. Big Willie’s doing his thing as always and so focused and, yeah, it has the chance to be the biggest one.” It remains to be seen if his words come true.

The Bad Boys trilogy is available on Amazon Prime Video.
