One Piece and Dragon Ball are considered to be two of the grandest anime in the whole world. Both of them have millions of followers. Not only are the Eastern countries, the Western countries are also well aware of them. The main characters of these anime, Monkey D. Luffy and Goku, have immense power to defeat any enemy. Even though both fanbases see each other as rivals, it is the opposite for their creators.
Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball, often praises Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, for his works. While the latter considered the former to be his idol. But recently, one of the editors of Dragon Ball and Toriyama’s colleague criticized Oda for a particular aspect of One Piece. Fans have been trying to decrypt what the editor meant by his statement.
Kazuhiko Torishima Criticized One Piece Creator
Kazuhiko Torishima was an editor of the Dragon Ball franchise and has worked for several years with Akira Toriyama. Even though he shares the same feeling as Toriyama, he criticized a particular aspect of One Piece. Fans thought that his being from a rival anime was the reason why he did not mince his words during an interview. But Torishima did not bore any ill feelings.
In an interview 10 minutes ago, the legendary Dragon Ball editor Torishima said it is a pity that, unlike in the early days, One Piece editors these days can no longer disagree with Oda. On the other hand, he praised Oda for his passion and excellence in character creation.🤩 pic.twitter.com/nMDTRYqOsf

A Twitter account, @sandman_AP, shared a picture of Kazuhiko Torishima’s interview and briefed about his criticism of One Piece. Torishima thinks that it is a pity to not have any editors who can disagree with Eiichiro Oda. During the old days, this was possible to do. He also mentioned that he is impressed by Oda’s passion and excellence in character creation.
Fans On Torishima’s Statement
Fans believe that Kazuhiko Torishima mentioned an interesting point. One Piece before time-skip and after time-skip has a lot of difference. Several fans believe the former is better, while others go for the latter. It is the same for Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. Eiichiro Oda has a unique style for his creation. But according to Torishima, it needs a bit of change.
We need to stop assuming that one person knows best. You need a team to create anything. You need people challenging your ideas. If they don’t you can loose perspective on your creation.

Torishima has been in the business for several decades. So few people in the fanbase think he is on the right track, and Oda does need some change. Maybe taking a few ideas from his editors won’t be bad. On the other hand, the opposite section of the fans believe that Eiichiro Oda knows what is best for One Piece, so other’s opinions are not welcomed.
There have been several instances when statements of criticism have led to a social media war between two fanbases. But for the moment, both Dragon Ball and One Piece fanbase are dealing with it quite maturely.
