The game’s lore was incredibly confusing and bizarre, even by Remedy’s standards. If one found the title’s narrative interesting, these four titles are right up there and should be next on your list of games to play.

With Alan Wake 2, Remedy Studios held nothing back and delivered a fantastic, immersive, yet mind-bending title to its fans. Part of Remedy’s connected universe spans Alan Wake, Quantum Break, and Control; the title is arguably the studio’s most bizarre game to date.

Everything from the game’s soundtrack, visuals, voice acting, motion capture is pitch perfect and speak volumes about director Sam Lake’s vision with the sequel. Lake also appears in the game as Alex Casey.

Despite being the first title not being successful enough, the sequel became the fastest-selling title by the studio. The game has scooped multiple awards and will go down in history as one of the best titles ever released in 2023.

#4 Observer

The game tells a chilling story in a post-apocalyptic world.

Bloober’s team recently made headlines when it was announced that the studio would develop the Silent Hill 2 remake, slated for release in October 2024. Before that, the studio developed several popular titles, such as Observer.

The game is set in a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk setting in the year 2084. Right from the opening cutscene, the game puts up more questions than it answers. Not just that, the questions keep on piling up until they don’t. And when they stop, things only get worse.

Like Remedy’s latest title, the game offers excellent visual fidelity and punches way above its weight class. The game’s world is unsettling; the characters and NPCs feel nuanced, and ultimately, the game will leave you wanting more.

#3 Dead Space

Remakes are always tricky to get right. While some, like remakes of the Resident Evil games, have fared incredibly, many others do not even rise to the surface of the vast ocean of video games released every year.

Fortunately, Dead Space Remake was an example of a title remade with passion and faithfulness. Being a remake, the story was the same as the original, but everything it added in or altered felt good enough to be an upgrade but not radical enough to feel out of place.

The game’s world is horrifying, and the game focuses a lot on graphic, grotesque elements like gore and violence. However, the game is far from an action game with a macho protagonist who can kill anything and everything. It is a profound story of how a competent human can lose his sanity.

#2 Blair Witch

Another Bloober Team game on this list, Blair Witch, is a more conventional horror video game than others. The game relies more on conventional methods of horror art forms like eerie surroundings, jump scares, and unsettling sound design.

One of the reasons why the game received flack was that the story felt a little difficult to piece together. However, this might very well be the game’s highlight for Horror video game enthusiasts looking for mind-bending thrills.

It has multiple endings, and the game spares no chance to convince you that you are not alone and that someone is consistently watching you. If one considers oneself a horror video game connoisseur, trying this one out is a no-brainer.

#1 The Evil Within

A lot of video games in the survival horror genre include an aspect of defensive and offensive combat to survive. However, a lot of such games do not end up feeling that scary due to a multitude of reasons.

The Evil Within, however, puts you in the shoes of a detective in charge of investigating a mass murder at a mental hospital. And as you progress in the game’s story, things become even more confusing. Suddenly, one can find oneself in a supernatural environment, going against beings that appear nightmarish.

Adding puzzles to the game’s concoction makes it an incredibly immersive game with a firm grip on the player’s attention. Which one of these games intrigues you the most? And which ones have you played already? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
