Alan Wake 2, the follow-up to the 2010 cult classic supernatural adventure title Alan Wake is finally here and the PC requirements for the game are quite lofty. Players on PCs are worried if their rigs can run the game smoothly or if they need to invest in high-end graphics cards which can be quite costly.

The PC requirements for Alan Wake 2 are in three tiers; minimum, recommended, and ultra PC specs, with different levels of performance and quality. All these specs are high enough with minimum requirements set at an Intel Core i5 7600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU and Nvidia RTX 2060 or AMD Radeon RX 6600 on the graphics front.

There were also rumors that AMD’s RX 5000 series or Nvidia’s GTX 10 series are not supported as they do not have mesh shading and the game depends on mesh shader support to run. However, it turns out that it can run quite well on low to mid-PCs. Below are the best video and gameplay settings for players to get the best quality and performance on their rigs while playing Alan Wake 2.

Players on low and mid-range PCs need not worry as the game performs well and looks incredible after making some adjustments to the settings. The video settings will allow players to enjoy the game at a max fps of 90. Although it went down in some moments or cutscenes to some, the fps was still constant above 60.

Players will be required to set their resolution upscaling at DLSS and render resolution to1280×720 for best quality in Alan Wake 2. The render resolutions depend on DLSS or FSR settings and both the balance and performance provide a smooth frame rate. Players must also turn off Vsync and turn Motion Blur on for better performance and visuals.

The motion blur supports the game with stutters in between the frames during the intense moments of the game. It helps the game to hide bad graphics and low framerates without making the gaming experience bad. Players should also set the post-processing quality to high, texture resolution to medium, and texture filtering to low.

Other important video settings for Alan Wake 2 are as follows:

  • Global illumination quality: Medium
  • Shadow resolution: Low
  • Shadow filtering:– Medium
  • Shadow detail: Medium
  • Global reflections: Low
  • SSR: Low
  • Fog quality: Medium
  • Terrain Quality: Medium
  • LOD: Medium
  • Scattered object density: Medium
  • Ray tracing preset: Off

These settings can make the game more pop by enhancing the quality and would also affect the performance, resulting in a better and smoother gaming experience.

There are not many things to adjust in Alan Wake 2 gameplay-wise but tweaks to some settings can make the gameplay better. Players can turn off aim assist to get a more natural feel during combat. Although players using the Dualshock controller can turn on the aim assist feature since the control has support for aim assist, it is not useful for other players, making the gameplay feel controlled.

Players can also turn on quick turns as the game features some ugly and powerful enemies and players might want to just run sometimes rather than fighting. With the quick turn feature turned on, players will be able to sprint at just the touch of a button and will need not hold the button to keep running. It is also important to note that players will need to have an SSD as the game doesn’t run on an HDD.
