Remedy Entertainment has given fans an update on its upcoming projects. Through the Business Review for quarter one of 2024, the company goes over the success of Alan Wake 2 and where it’s headed next collectively.
Codename Condor is the next game to release from Remedy as the project has moved to full production. As part of the Control franchise, expect to have the same unique gameplay mechanics that Remedy is known for. Speaking of Control, the direct sequel, Control 2, is finalizing the proof-of-concept. Production readiness is planned for the second quarter of 2024. From everything Remedy showed in this Business Review, expect to see more of its games in the coming years.
Starting From the Alan Wake Sequel, Remedy’s Control Will Now Expand
The studio certainly made a name for itself last year. Due to the massive success of the Alan Wake sequel, regarded as one of the best games of 2023, the company is on the map now more than ever.
The newest investor Business Review dives into what the Alan Wake sequel’s success means for the company’s future. The team continues to work on DLC for the Alan Wake sequel to expand it further beyond the base game.
The studio’s next game, Codename Condor, has moved into full production. Control 2 is still in the creative process and should be in production readiness in the second quarter of this year.
Because the Alan Wake sequel recouped a good portion of development and marketing costs, the studio was able to purchase the Control rights from publisher 505 Games for about 17 million euros.
The Studio’s Future Projects: Alan Wake and Control Expansion
Where the Alan Wake sequel succeeded means the studio can now expand the Control franchise too. Not just from a direct sequel but also games like Condor to be part of that franchise. The Control rights acquisition was important, as CEO Tero Virtala said:
We can freely choose the right model with which to grow our two franchises and expand the Remedy Connected Universe. When expanding high-quality franchises, each new game benefits from the success of its predecessors and the existing fan base.
Aside from the studio’s two original franchises, the team is also developing the Max Payne 1 and 2 remake. The game is still in the production readiness stage but should move into full production in the second quarter of 2024.
Another game the studio is actively developing is called Codename Kestrel. While it’s still in the concept stage, the team envisions the project as “a premium game with a strong, cooperative multiplayer component.”
Maybe something akin to It Takes Two, where co-op is mandatory for the game to be fully experienced. Obviously, with the studio’s signature twist to make it unique from other games on the market.
