After a few commercial failures, Steven Spielberg is all set to return to the director’s chair for reportedly a sci-fi project centering the UFO theme. Spielberg, one of the two richest directors of all time (equals the same $8 billion fortune as George Lucas), recently found it hard to break through the box office but maintained his legacy among critics.
With a new movie on his sleeve, the director may bounce back to giving fans a brand new box office hit, a treat for fans to cherish from the cinematic visionary. Spielberg is one of the finest movie directors of all time with several astounding titles to his name including Saving Private Ryan and Schindler’s List.
Steven Spielberg Is Set To Direct A Movie On UFO
Steven Spielberg is reportedly set to direct a movie centering on the theme of UFO. The director has previously directed several science fiction movies including Minority Report, and Ready Player One but with his 1982 classic E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and 2005 action sci-fi War of the Worlds, the director has touched upon close to similar narrative as his upcoming movie.
According to Variety, the forthcoming movie will move ahead under the banner of Universal Pictures. The studio already has a release date for the untitled project which is currently in development. His longtime collaborator David Koepp landed on the project and previously worked on Spielberg’s Jurassic Park, War of the Worlds, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
The story of the movie was reportedly developed from a story by Spielberg himself as Universal Pictures dubbed it a “new original event film.” Kristie Macosko Krieger is producing the movie who also has a long tie with the director for his association with several projects including, Bridge of Spies, West Side Story, and Spielberg’s most recent The Fabelmans.

Despite being one of the greatest movie directors currently working today filled with a stunning number of box-office hits to his credit, Spielberg had a rough path to finding commercial success with his last two movies— West Side Story and The Fabelmans. But around the time of the release of these movies, Covid-19 was pretty much acting as the roadblock. With the new movie, the director may find the path to success again, and considering his track record, fans can certainly expect another masterpiece.
Universal Pictures slated the untitled Spielberg project for May 15, 2026 release.
