Quentin Tarantino’s Thoughts on Top Gun: Maverick

The filmmaker of Pulp Fiction praised Tom Cruise‘s Top Gun: Maverick and expressed his appreciation for it.

I f**king love Top Gun: Maverick,” he said.

I thought it was fantastic. I saw it at the theaters… That and [Steven] Spielberg’s West Side Story both provided a true cinematic spectacle, the kind that I’d almost thought that I wasn’t going to see anymore. It was fantastic.”

Tony Scott, who directed the original Top Gun and also True Romance, has received unabashed admiration from Tarantino.

There was just this lovely, lovely aspect because I love both Tony Scott’s cinema so much and I love Tony so much that that’s as close as we’re ever going to get to seeing one more Tony Scott movie,” Tarantino said.

Tarantino only had one small complaint about the emotional reunion scene between Cruise and Val Kilmer. “Almost too cheap, but it works… It absolutely delivers,” he said.

Tarantino wrote True Romance which was directed by Scott.

Quentin Tarantino Almost Cast Tom Cruise in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

Brad Pitt received multiple awards for Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, most notably the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. But it could have been another well-known actor playing Cliff Booth. During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, filmmaker Quentin Tarantino revealed that he once approached Tom Cruise to play Brad Pitt’s character.
