The concept art showcased the character’s intimidating appearance with grayish skin usually covered in bony protrusions, sharp teeth, glowing red eyes, and a ferocious demeanor. However, the filmmaker still went with the alternate design.

The character’s depiction in the film has since been heavily criticized. However, Snyder has shared that there were plans to evolve Doomsday’s appearance towards the classic comic book iteration over time in the film.

Zack Snyder Shared Doomsday Was Supposed to Evolve in the Film

During Zack Snyder’s Vero commentary on the fourth anniversary of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the filmmaker shared that there were plans for Doomsay to evolve into a classic comic book iteration later in the film. He said,

“That was a thing that we talked about, you know, wanting to give him that classic Doomsday appearance with the bony shards coming through.”

Explaining his choice of Doomsday as the film’s primary antagonist, Snyder aimed to pit DC Universe’s most iconic and powerful villains against its most iconic superheroes. “He is essentially an unstoppable force. He poses a real threat to the world within the film,” he shared, as per ComicBook.com.

He also shared that although the supervillain was destroyed in the film, he is still “out there.” Unfortunately, fans might never get to see what Snyder envisioned with the character in the DCEU’s future.
