The thrilling story of Jujutsu Kaisen was put to a halt when Gege Akutami, the creator of the series, faced health issues. The last release that the Jujutsu Kaisen manga saw was Chapter 262, which was released on June 9th. However, as the manga creator’s health deteriorated, the series went on a two-week break.
While fans were waiting for the series to come back on July 1, it has recently been announced that Akutami might take an additional one-week break so that they can recover completely and come back with more interesting chapters. However, this was not the decision of the mangaka but of the editorial staff of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump.
This gesture of the editorial department was greatly appreciated by fans, as they could sympathize with Akutami, who has been working on Jujutsu Kaisen day and night. Not only that, the fans also demanded justice for other manga creators like Yoshihiro Togashi, who wrote the Hunter x Hunter manga but left it incomplete because of health issues.
Shueisha Extends Gege Akutami’s Haitus
The official account of Jujutsu Kaisen shared a tweet on X(Formerly Twitter) where they announced that although the Jujutsu Kaisen mangaka is better now, the editorial staff has decided that they should take a little more break and come back stronger than ever. This was a great gesture from Shuiesha’s side.
The tweet read:
Jujutsu Kaisen was scheduled to resume publication in issue 31 of Weekly Shonen Jump, but will resume publication in issue 32. Although Akutami sensei’s health has improved, after consulting with the editorial staff, we have decided that he should resume writing when he is in perfect health. We appreciate your continued support for Jujutsu Kaisen.
The staff thanked Jujutsu Kaisen fans for understanding their concern and appreciated them for being patient with the story. The series will return with Chapter 263 of the series on July 8th, which will mark the publication of issue 32 of the series, continuing the epic fight between Sukuna, Yuji Itadori, and Yuta Okkotsu in Gojo’s body.
Manga Fans Demand Justice For Other Mangakas
Manga creators often become victims of severe health issues because of overwork and pressure from the industry. They spend their entire lives trying to mark their legacy by making the perfect story that can entertain fans and the upcoming generations. The biggest example of this is Yoshihiro Togashi, who had to go on one of the longest hiatuses because of his health.
As soon as fans saw the sweet gesture by Shueisha for Gege Akutami, they came together and demanded similar treatment for other manga creators too.
While some fans wished Akutami a speedy recovery, others compared their condition to different mangakas and how the industry is putting pressure on them.
they should do this with some of the other mangakas too ngl

THANK GOD .
I was really worried this was gonna be a Bleach situation all over again with them rushing the creator until the very end & then he had to rush even more because of their declining health 🙁 !!
So happy thats not the case here (hopefully )— 🌟Larae🌟 ( Comms Open! ) (@SmolSammichOwO) June 23, 2024
So glad the new generation of mangaka are able to focus on their health far too many of the greats have passed far too young

Being a mangaka is just a demanding a job. I mean imagine the workload of having to storyboard and draw a manga weekly on youw own. They have assistans but usually only help with things like BGs and screentones.

The publishers and the studios need to devise a way through which the pressure on manga creators like Akutami and Togashi can be reduced and they can take care of themselves along with releasing great chapters that could keep the audience entertained.
