The divorce saga of actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard has been one of the most widely publicized and discussed breakups in Hollywood starting in 2015 and spanning almost 8 years. The relationship that was marred by volatility, back-and-forth blame games, and ugly spats, has spilled the opinions of audiences right down the middle. The subsequent televised courtroom proceedings that took place after Johnny Depp filed a defamation suit against his ex-wife for violence and abuse, also became viral, generating a wide array of opinions.
The trouble is paradise started almost immediately after the couple got married in 2015 with Amber Heard citing violence against her as the reason. The lawyers of the Edwards Scissorhands actor refuted the Aquaman actor’s demands for 50,000 dollars a month in spousal support stating that she has enough net worth to be self-sufficient. Johnny Depp ultimately ceded to Amber Heard’s demands but not before a full-fledged analysis of her finances was done by his legal team.

Is Amber Heard as rich as Johnny Depp?
With Johnny Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard demanding a significant monthly amount from the Pirates of the Caribbean star for spousal support, a deep dive into both actors’ finances was launched in 2015 by both parties. According to sources, Johnny Depp’s net worth then was estimated at 400 million dollars with the actor making 30 million in 2014 alone. In addition, the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory star had allegedly signed a staggering 95 million dollar contract for Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Man tell No Tales.
In contrast, it was revealed that Amber Heard’s total earnings in 2015 were just over 250 thousand dollars which included small remunerations from films like The Danish Girl, Paranoia, and residual fees from Machete Kills. Another significant detail from both actors’ finances was the huge discrepancy in their earnings from The Rum Diary, their first film together. While Johnny Depp received a whopping 15 million for the movie, Amber Heard supposedly took home a shocking 2472 dollars as a paycheck. With these meager earnings and subsequent expenses, the Machete Kills actor only banked around 50 thousand dollars in total in 2014.

The war between the Johnny Depp and the Amber Heard camps was incessant.
Despite both actors’ finances being up for public scrutiny, the two camps were steadfast in their support for their respective clients. Johnny Depp’s lawyer released a statement that read,
“As a successful actress with significant income of her own, there is no question that Amber can support herself until the parties have had a reasonable amount of time to assess their finances with the assistance of counsel and then negotiate a mutually agreeable resolution or seek regularly-noticed court orders.”
Meanwhile, Amber Heard’s legal team hit back with their support towards the star with the words,
“The Family Law Court is not going to be influenced by misinformation placed in the social media based on anonymous sources. Amber is the victim. Amber is a hero.”
The estranged couple ultimately succeeded in getting their divorce. But Johnny Depp filed a defamation suit against Amber Heard in 2018 claiming that she was violent towards him. The Tourist star ultimately won the case and was to receive a total of 15 million in damages from his ex-wife, a now bankable star after she enters into the DC franchise as Mera in Aquaman.
