Cara Delevingne has been very vocal about her opinions on social media even if it cost her to lose tons of followers. For the model and actress, it is important to stand up for what is right and true because staying silent is just another way of supporting perpetrators.
Delevingne reportedly lost about 50,000 followers after she ranted about rapper R. Kelly’s allegations. The Suicide Squad star knew that those who decided to unfollow her “clearly don’t agree” with her sentiment, though it did not deter her from promoting her advocacy.
Cara Delevingne Spoke Against R. Kelly And Immediately Lost Thousands Of Fans
Cara Delevingne posted on her Instagram profile about the insane loss of followers after she spoke out about R. Kelly’s issue. A documentary series called Surviving R. Kelly featured a number of people, including family members, former friends, and women, who revealed the rapper’s use of his influence to s*xually and physically abuse women. Delevingne wrote:
“I lost more than 50,000 followers yesterday after posting about R Kelly. Every time I say something real, something I truly believe, something others may think of as controversial, something that makes people think and ask questions, I lose followers.”
The actress clearly did not care if her followers chose not to agree with her statement about R. Kelly. She wanted to become more “confrontational” and to speak up when she knew someone was being abusive.
“I want to be more confrontational. Confrontation IS NOT VIOLENCE btw, it’s communication. Something I still struggle with. I have always been taught to avoid confrontation at all costs, which caused me to be silent most of my life, silence causes suppression, and suppression causes sickness. Not anymore! Goodbye silence and backwards followers, hello confrontation and forward thinkers. It’s going to be a loud year.”
Delevingne shared on another Instagram post that she finished watching Surviving R. Kelly documentary, and she was very shocked at how the rapper’s deeds have been going on for a long time. She also compared the rapper to convicted abuser Harvey Weinstein:
“My heart goes out to all the victims of his emotional and physical abuse and their families. This man is a predator that feeds of power and, in my opinion, is far worse than Harvey Weinstein and needs to be held accountable.”
The Paper Towns star regretted listening to R Kelly’s music and urged fans not to separate artists from their art because they could sound like angels in the studio but could actually be devils in real life.
R. Kelly Was Convicted Of S*x Crimes Involving Children
In February this year, R. Kelly was sentenced to 20 years in prison for child p—graphy and enticement. As per ABC 7 Chicago, the rapper is a s*xual predator who used his power and fame to abuse his victims and has never shown any regret. US Attorney Northern District of Illinois John Lausch said:
“A 20-year sentence, in this case, is impactful. That ensures that there will be a significant amount of time that R. Kelly will not be out on the streets to do additional harm to others.”
Several victims came forward and attended the trial to testify and share their own accounts. R. Kelly was also ordered to pay $42,000 for the therapy of the women.
