With popular franchises like Fast & Furious, and Indiana Jones already released, and more on the way, 2023 has been a year of franchises. It seems a wonderful time for avid fans to catch some of the most iconic movie franchises this year. Among the many films, unfortunately, the popular Indiana Jones 5 has turned out to be a miserable failure.

The final installment of the popular horror franchise, Insidious: The Red Door has apparently left behind the iconic Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which coincidentally seems to be the last and fifth installment as well. And the film’s star and Amber Heard’s co-star in Aquaman 2, Patrick Wilson couldn’t be more happy about it.

After the pandemic, even major studios have been struggling to bring returns with their theatrical releases. Among the many genres, the horror genre gained a particularly high track record among viewers. Despite the high track, it wasn’t easy to replicate a heightened success record of pre-pandemic when it comes to theatrical releases. However, Sony’s Insidious: The Red Door seems to have revitalized the genre with its $32.65 million opening and $64 million global debut.

The popularity of the fifth chapter has been such that even dethroned the popular installment of Disney’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny which despite the hype had only managed to gross over $26.5 million on its second weekend. The success of the film can be linked to Sony nabbing all the global rights and even financing the film’s $16 million production budget.

Furthermore, with Insidious: The Red Door having the complete original cast back once again and Patrick Wilson also making his directorial debut, the film has been going on strong. And the Aquaman 2 star, Wilson couldn’t be more happy, who recently tweeted,

Well, they certainly deserve the success, since Sony went completely overboard to promote the film as best as they could.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny: A Humiliating Failure

Indiana Jones 5 is a box-office flop
Indiana Jones 5 is a box-office flop

After being miserably dethroned by Insidious: The Red Door, Indiana Jones has been a humiliating failure for Harrison Ford and Disney. Meant to be a glorified farewell for Harrison Ford as his last stint as the celebrated explorer Indiana Jones, the fifth and apparently last installment has been a disappointing and crushing disaster.

The overly hyped promotions and the film being part of the legendary franchise, Indiana Jones 5 has only managed to gross about $247 million against his reported budget of $300 million. It must make about 2.5 times more for it to be considered a profitable venture. However with movies like Mission: Impossible- Dead Reckoning Part One, Barbie, and Oppenheimer, it seems impossible that Indiana Jones 5 might be able to make its recovery.

Both Insidious: The Red Door and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny are in cinemas now.
