Fury of the Gods and if he would ever play another superhero if given the chance. While promoting Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Zachary Levi discussed the superhero world with Inside the NBA. During the discussion, Levi talked about everything from what to expect from the upcoming film to the pressure that comes with playing a superhero. Shaquille O’Neal presented Levi with a question asking, “Being that you were in Shazam 1 and 2, if they ever ask you to play another superhero, Batman, Superman, would you or would you say, ‘No, I am Shazam. That’s it. Don’t ever ask me again.’”

More often than not, we have seen actors stick to a particular superhero for as long as they can. However, Levi sees no problem in getting cast as a superhero other than Shazam. According to the actor, it all depends on what the script holds as well as on the person who is sitting on the director’s chair. If any director wants Levi to star in their superhero film, leaving Shazam behind, they must come out with a “really cool” idea.

“Honestly, it would just come down to the script, the director. Like if it was a really cool movie to go make, I can play another superhero, why not?”

Well, since there are rumors about Jason Momoa leaving Aquaman behind to play another superhero, maybe Levi can jump on the bandwagon with him! Right now, there are rumors going around that the DCU is done with Shazam at the moment. This comes after Levi posted a couple of controversial tweets about the pharmaceutical brand – Pfizer. According to reporter Grace Randolph, Levi is “not DC’s problem anymore, as I heard that Shazam is done.” This leads to the speculation that James Gunn is firing the Chuck actor. Does this mean that Levi’s wish of playing another superhero stems from this ordeal?

Also, way back in 2018, Levi talked about how much he wanted to play the character of Gambit in his career. He recalled that while kids always wanted to be Wolverine, he was ready with a pretend bo staff to play Gambit. Since Gambit is one of the characters in X-Men, maybe Levi wouldn’t mind jumping ships to Marvel if given the chance.

When asked about what to expect from the sequel, Levi stated that the film is bringing the same heart and humor as its predecessor as well as the family dynamics. However, since the characters have grown up a little, the essence of the film has graduated since Shazam! 1. Levi even stated that the visual effects are much better than the last time owing to a fifty million dollar increase in budget.

“We tried to bring the same essence the first one had which is a lot of heart, a lot of humor, a lot of charm, a family dynamic. I mean, it’s really kind of good and fun for all ages. But it’s graduated now, the kids are a little bit older, we had a fifty more million dollars in the budget so the movie’s just bigger and the special effects are better.”

Judging the film just by Levi’s words, It looks like Shazam! 2 is going to be one hell of a ride. With the recent slump the superhero movies have been in lately, maybe this is what it takes to finally regain the audience’s interest!

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is coming to theatres on March 17, 2023.
